I dunno... $5K seems like a lot, but it's an isolated charge. If you have your car the way you want it and need to spruce up the color, doesn't seem horrible.
I would get a 20K C5 with good paint. Most C5s are garaged kept and not driven in bad weather so most have good paint. Cars with good original paint are more desirable than repainted cars. When I was on the C3 forum a guy put a 10k paint job on his '80 that he paid 12K for. Drove it for a few months then sold it for 15K and bought a C4.

That's funny. How did they ever stay in business?

The free market system usually weeds out businesses like that. They must have supplied a service that most customers were actually satisfied with.

Most technical body men do side work. If you befriend one and help their family out...
**** gets done! You can get good body work for $3,000. You just have to have a few friends.

This is the fastest car in the world and it is American. It has a twin turbo Corvette engine, a LS7 V8. It runs on bald eagle ****! They did this run at Kennedy space station.
It's not a Corvette but it is a Corvette engine.

With a 427 LSX it beat the Bugatti Veyron with only half the cylinders.

I'm sure Pennzoil had some sponsorship rights. None the less.

I would trade out retail for retail only on barter work. Other wise someone gets screwed. Its the only way to be fair to both trades IMO.
Friends is something else, I will do anything for my buddy pertaining to my trade, I never charge him a thing. That way he owes me. But I would not do this for a complete paint job. There is way too many things that could go wrong and put me in an awkward position not wanting to complain, small work is fine.

I feel like a "side job" of this scale could be a disaster to a friendship, plus...unless its the shop owner where is the work being done? Some garage not set up to paint cars?

it could work out great but I would not do it at this stage in my life on my corvette.

If it isn't a color change and there is little to no actual damage, than a reshoot of the existing color from a quality shop should be less than $2k (no door jams or trunk or under hood).

Less than $2K.....all I can say is if it was a real quality job people would be lined up (including me and I have a friend in the business) People pay close to that for runflats.

To me a quality job means as good as or better than factory. I personally have not seen a result like that for that kind of money. This is not an attack, I just have not seen it.
