I use Techron in my C5, about every third tank or so based on recommendations from forum members. I use Seafoam in my other vehicles with very nice results. So far, so good! Have a good one!

Sorry, I meant to say "BG 44K" not "BK-44" - always get that confused.

What I use comes in the can - it is a fuel system cleaner. I pour it in at the gas station before I fill up.

Locally the BG-44K is $24 per can if you can find it - I buy it in bulk on Amazon for about $9 less per can. Techron I usually buy at O'Reilly when it goes on sale - usually around $8 a bottle or less.

I had the gas gage issue while traveling from Tampa to bowling green to visit the corvette museum. I stopped at a local mechanic that had 3 older vettes he was restoring. He told me about Techron. I t helps clean the gage that seems to get clogged between the 2 gas tanks. I put some in kept on driving and within 50 miles gage was back. He also mentioed Techron is in chevron premium gas. I always used premium. She'll / Mobil but now I use chevron whenever I can find it. I still add Techron a few times a year. Never used sea foam

Apparently my new acquisition, the 2001 C5 with 20,000 miles, had an issue with its original owner back in 2008. He took it to the Chevy dealership where he told service personnel the fuel gauge was reading empty. The message board said half full. So, the dealership tested the fuel gauge system--replaced the fuel level sensor and right fuel tank module. Guess what his total bill was! $1,466.00. He had also had various service departments top off his power steering fluid. Earlier in 2005, his notes and receipts shows there was a problem with the electronic column lock system. The service dept. reprogrammed the PCM. That bill, $59.00, was covered by some type of warranty he still had. And, I don't see any more entries where he noted any more problems with the column. Could any of these problems have been influenced by the car not being driven a lot? From all I am readying from many of you folks, most may be using Seafoam motor treatment for vehicles other than Vettes, and using Techron occasionally after so many fill-ups. I forgot to mention Marvel Mystery Oil. I have been using it on my Ford Ranger....when changing oil I hold back 4 oz. of my regular oil and add 4 oz of the Mystery Oil. Any thoughts on that? And, I guess I am on a roll here, but this forum is where I can benefit from all the experience here....and so my first tank of gas in the C5 was Chevron. I think the shop foreman at the dealership here in town said he liked Chevron and Shell. My cousin who is a real car guy likes Sunoco. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated as well.

Mine had a "flutter" at about 1400 rpm. Doug had someone sit in the car while he disconnected the fuel line and he carefully poured Seafoam into the line. Tho' the engine was unhappy, and a lot of smoke later, 90% of that flutter was gone.
I've used the Techron as well, and it is a Chevron product.

The only additive I add to my Mobile-1 oil every change is BG-MOA, but I have to have my oil changed at my local Lube Center a couple blocks away to get the BG Assurance Guarantee which warrants lubricated engine parts in case of engine failure. (https://www.bgprod.com/programs/engine-assurance/)

I have never used anything but Chevron Premium with Techron for 16 years but the gauge still craps out if I don't use the additives.

Being a new C5 owner, I was just sending up a trial balloon to you folks for feedback regarding Seafoam motor treatment. I have only used it in the fuel tank with my '08 Ford Ranger, with very good results. Now there are three different types of Seafoam, but as far as the motor treatment version, the can lists benefits of: when adding to crankcase oil, when used in fuel line, vacuum or induction systems, and when added to gas. With all the feedback regarding Seafoam, nobody suggests it's not a good product, some use it in the Vettes, apparently most use Techron. I will probably continue with Seafoam with the Ranger and figure out a good interval to add Techron when filling up with gas.

So you just dump the can directly in the fuel tank and then fill with gas a minute later?

I just bought my 04 with 18000 miles and looking for preventative measures for fuel system, and gas gauge. Sounds like Techron and best gas which I always do in my less driven cars since cost is not an issue.

From the people I have talked with, it seems most are adding to the gas tank. A couple of folks shared that they start with a fairly low tank....add some premium gas...then the additive...and finish off with the premium gas. I don't know if that makes a lot of difference in the mixing of everything in the tank...but I had been doing that with my Seafoam/Ranger.

I think that is what I was saying, but lacking in clarity. I was trying to say that I would have MUCH less than 1/2 in the tank....and would add a little fuel...then the additive...which would be at that point still lower than half a tank...then add fuel to totally fill. I apologize for not being clear. I was initially thinking that if the tank was pretty low with fuel, that it might be better to add a little more fuel before the additive so maybe that would help in things getting mixed a bit, but now I realize that was faulty thinking on my part. So when less than 1/2 tank of fuel, I will add the additive and then fill er up with fuel.https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ilies/hide.gif Thanks for getting me straight on how the two tanks work!
