Unless you are used to driving long hours, best to split the trip up. I'm sure you could do it in the car, it's just the mental fatigue can come on rather quickly and sometimes you don't notice it until it is too late. If you do try it, take plenty of breaks/rest stops to clear your mind and just stretch your body. Amazing what a few minutes outside of the car, walking around in the fresh air, can do for you.

Pounder, when I had to drive from MD to Florida (65+) to help my parents I did it in one day about 1000 miles. It took me 15 hours in then 1992 Acura Legend and later a 02 Maxima. You have to like to drive. I do and able to control stops for personal needs. But I cannot imagine how great it would have been to do it in my C5 that I did not have at that time.

For someone that is use to driving long distances,no problem. For someone that is not, that's going to be a long ride. If you drive straight through you will be fatigue, and not enjoy the rest of you trip. And you still have to drive back.

Hey Guys, I am planning a trip of 1000 miles, I want to do it without stopping for a overnite. Am I out of my mind ??? Maps says it would be 14 hours, I thinking Corvette time in less than 12 ??? Only have driven my C 5 with stock seats (good condition) for three hours and have never been sore or tired in the least from driving 8 hours at a time (my truck)??Thanks Pounder !!
I drive these routes several times each summer for the mountain passes. The route in red is about 1000 Miles - 16.5 hours, and the route in blue is 590 miles - 11 hours, both routes are done in a single day and usually with the top off. I say it is totally doable, go for it!

Hi Pounder!! I've done 1300 to 1400 mile trips between NYC and Texas. Experience has shown me that, even on a mission to get there, right around 750 miles a day will get me there in two days without me getting so tired that I'm a road hazard to myself and everybody else out there. I can do it, but I don't find it particularly enjoyable. I drive about the 750, find a place to rest, get a meal and some sleep, off in the morning, get there by nightfall. I've done this in my C5 and I found the C5 cabin roomy enough and the sport seats more than comfortable enough for me, even with some lingering back issues. Just my opinion but I found the C5 to be a very nice distance road car. By the way, I've done the two day, NYC to Texas, deal a number of times on my Harley Road King. Truly an iron butt ride!! I'm with you, I love to drive and I love the enjoyment of seeing new routes and the sights so I really much prefer a slower paced meandering trip with no schedule and the ability to stop and hang out for a couple days somewhere interesting. Just thought I'd mention that each time I click on the forum these days Dave pops into my head. I know you two are very close friends. I lost my best friend to cancer some years ago after a five year fight, going through it all with him and his family. Very difficult and tough thing to all involved. I'm wishing and hoping for Dave, his family, and you my friend. Take good care! Mike P.

I am 66 and do a trip monthly from Tampa to Mobile, about 480 miles one way, mostly interstate. It usually runs about 7 to 7.5 hours, making on the average 1 fuel/ bathroom break. Average overall, door to door about 65 MPH, but about 80 MPH when on the interstates. Never feels overly tiresome and I would think I could do another 5 or 6 hours easily. Have used the ‘vette about 10 times for this trip and with the stock sport seats. Have not tried it yet with the replacement Corbeau A4’s. Other times my Cadillac SRX. Go for it.
Oh, and the 'vette gets a lot more waves and honks than the Caddy.

Pounder, you can easily do 1,000 in a Corvette. I have done it many times on BMW and Harley Motorcycles, my various other cars, and this past September I drove 1,000 straight through to Estes Park, CO, from Tinley Park, IL (Just outside Chicago) in my 1982 CE.
14 hours is about right. I worked many, many 16 hour shifts at the Police Department, so driving long hours is no biggie to me.
What I do when we go to Estes Park, is back my sleep up 1 hour a night until I am getting up at 8:00 pm on a Saturday night Chicago time. I take an ice cold shower, drink a couple Diet Mountain Dews, and hit the road.
As you get deeper into Saturday night, there is no traffic, no construction, and no State Troopers. There have been a few times when we've gone out there in September or October where I did not see another car on I-80 for 15-20 minutes in either direction. I kind of get in "THE ZONE", and most often don't even listen to music.
On this last trip in September, my Wife flew to Denver, and took the shuttle to the hotel in Estes. (I do not require her to spend 14 hours in a Corvette with me!) She checked into our room, and when I arrived after 14 hours on the road, she was sitting on the deck outside our room, with two bottles of wine, two glasses, a Gatorade for me, and food from the Mexican take-out place..... What a Babe!
I am buying a C-5 next week, and we plan on taking that to Niagara Falls in May (about 540 miles one-way), from there to Charleston, WV, and then to Ohio to visit my Wife's brother. Then, the same car to Maine in September (about 1,300 miles one-way to our first stop. I am not sure I will do that straight-through, though!)
I am 62 years young, and as far as losing a day, you really don't because you are not wasting a night in a hotel. When I drive straight through to Estes, I am generally in bed and dead asleep the first night I get there and sleep 12-13 hours. I don't feel any fatigue after waking up that first full day after the drive.
Good luck on your "Iron Butt", you will easily do the miles!
-Here are a couple photos from that last trip, both up on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Put on over 7k miles over 3 weeks on the Caravan '14 tour. The last two days were long ones (just wanted to get home) - 13 hours from Vegas to Oregon and then another 9 the next day home. Wasn't super comfortable but definitely doable - so you're not crazy at all!

I have driven straight through from Atlanta metro to Omaha, NE twice in my 2000 convertible. That is a little over 1,000 miles. My wife and I didn't have any problems, no fatigue, etc. We only drive it from Atlanta to Omaha as we pick up an hour.
