Does your C5 have a fixed roof?

6th character in the VIN will be a 1 if it's a Z06.

You don't need a VIN.

Z06: Fixed roof. Manual trans only. Z06 exterior emblem
Base: Targa fastback roof. auto or manual trans. No exterior emblem other than Corvette flag badges.

Why would you buy a Corvette without knowing every detail you can determine about it?

With the pics and info above, you should be able to figure out what you are looking at.

If you have the vin and not the car the eighth character will tell you engine type. G=LS1 for all C5 and S=LS6 for z06.

Well, most of my life I thought that was a fairly easy question to answer based on plumbing, so to speak...but now, I guess it's based on "the gender you identify with."

You guys act like this is the dumbest question you've heard today, but I was looking at a nice clean c6 earlier. When the salesman came out he asked if I wanted to take a test drive, but I told him I was only interested in 6 speed cars. He asked what that meant, and told me he didn't know much about corvettes.

There is no thing as a dumb question. However, you have to be careful where you ask it.

I've always heard:

Except for the 2005 with automatic transmission, ALL C6s are 6 speed cars.

Clones can be made to resemble a Z06 if it's a '99 or '00 FRC. If it's a FRC and it's a '04 it's a Z for sure.

technically true, but six speed generally implies a manual transmission even though the a6 does have 6 forward gears.
