Pewter c5 with tint pics?
Hey guys, trying to decide what grade tint to get on my 99 coupe. Thinking 15 on the sides and 5 on the back. Was in my buddies 2016 with 20 all around and thought it was to light. Had 5 percent on my Dakota R/T for a long time, plus the rear window was a factory smoke. It looked great but had to open the rear window to back up safely. On the Vette I back out more with Sideview mirrors.
Anyone got a pic of a pewter vette and what percent they went? Also been 10 yeas since taking a car to get tinted, any tips I should know about?

I decided against tinting my 99 Pewter after talking to numerous tint shops in my area.
None would guarantee they could get the tint to stick to the "dots" at the top of the rear glass.
The only option they offered was applying a vinyl strip over the dots & tinting below the vinyl.
They did offer to re-tint the rear glass if it didn't stick properly. But they would only retry one time
I also looked at numerous other corvettes and have only seen a couple where the tint has stuck properly.
Heard there are a couple of possible ways to,get it to work, but
Since I have the top off & the windows down over 75% of the time, It just wasn't worth it to me.
in short, do a little research on tint covering the Teflon dots....

i'd recommend against 5%, even on the back i got it on an old pickup without A/C to help with the sun. Can't see anything backing up. its hard to see out during the day even due to the reflection of the dash... corvette probably wouldn't have the reflection as bad, but you won't be able to see anything at night.
15-20 is an excellent choice on the sides and back. very dark from outside, but from inside is safe and easy to see out.
if you want a little darker look -- do the windshield at 50%. Did this on my wife's escalade -- looks great, and doesn't hamper visibility at all -- and helps on the cloudy days where you are squinty but it's not bright enough to wear sunglasses.
it will look good on pewter.. but my car is blue, so no help there....
found these one on google - with black "halo" -- which also looks sweet.
and one with color halo

Not sure where you live, but you might want to check what your state's laws say on the maximum amount of tint allowed on side windows. Around here, it is 35% on the front side windows.

If the shop does not understand how to tint the back window, move
on. A good shop will use a small piece of vinyl to cover the dots
and you would not know.

Thanks for the reply and pics guys! I'm in South Jersey....and NJ is a no tint on front, driver or passenger window state. Got pulled over a half dozen times with my Dakota with limo and finally ripped it of side windows. My F-250 came with tint all around (guessing 25%) and never been stopped in 3 years. Figure there is some profiling that goes along with it. But the Vette is only getting a few thousand miles a year on it anyway so I'll take the chance. Maybe 15% all around then, since bacling up a Vette is hard enough.
Been reading up on the back window issue. Sounds like vinyl is a good route. Think I'm gonna go to a shop in Pleasantville where my buddy gets his Philadelphia Eagles bus wrapped every few years. Plus he has high end cars that he takes to them for tint, ground effects etc. Still hate leaving my baby with anyone!!! Don't won't to name the shop since I doubt they are a sponsor but it's the biggest "Car" shop in that area. Looked on thier website and they use 3m Crystalline Automotive Window Films. Guessing that is the good stuff.

In one of the pics the tint was removed from my drivers side window. I had to replace that one window, it's a must have in the south

Great pics guys. Also like the one with the black out tail lights. Was wanting to do that after getting her tinted but still up in the air on that mod. Some nice looking cars. Going to talk to the shop tomorrow and see how they handle things. Fingers crossed. Here is a before pic for now.

Well got her done today. Shop did a real nice job. Ended up going with 25 percent all around and with black interior it looks perfect. They did not like the idea of vynil on the back window. Said they sand down the dots slightly and tint right over. Told me it would not be perfect under a microscope but will look still look good. So put my trust in them and let them do their thing. They want me to stop back in 2 weeks and they will touch up the back window just to make sure I'm happy. Of course they stuck on a the shops sticker on the outside of the back window but sorry, I don't do free advertising so that got ripped off soon as she got back in the garage lol. Looks great so far, see how it dries up.
THanks again guys for the pics and advice
