Default Weather stripping on Driver's Door

Has anybody else had a problem with the weather stripping tearing at the back top corner. My weather stripping tore and now won't seal when you roll the window up. Seals fine if have the window up and close the door. As far as I can tell It did it on it's own. No evidence of an attempted break in. The car sits in the garage most of the time.

Warranty?

As for your problem, I've never had anything like that happen on 4 C5s I've owned.

Rob,

That's an awesome sig pic! I was just staring at it on my Apple 23" widescreen (it's even wider than the screen). Those two cars look awesome side-by-side. And nice garage!

My weather stripping is torn in exactly the same place you mentioned. I also see no evidence of attempted break in and am not sure how it happened. I have the part number for the replacement stripping, it was $160 from the local dealer and around $99 from gmpartsdirect. I will post the part number later this evening.

Sorry for the delay, the part number for the drivers side stripping is 10333468.

Default Update

Just wanted to let you guys know that are having this same problem that the dealership is fixing it under warranty. I just hope they don't screw anything up.

Default Watch the weather stripping as window goes up!

My '02 Vert. only has 5600 miles on it and has always been garaged. Friday nite I moved it in the garage and up the top and windows up. When the drivers window was going up I could see a tugging action on the weather stripping as the window reached about 3/4 up to the top. My stripping is not damaged yet but that got me to wondering. Should I open the door a little each time I raise the window? Will putting silicon on the weather strip reduce the friction or will it cause more adhesion to the glass?

I'm sure it couldn't hurt to make sure that the rubber isn't too dry. I think that is something I might start doing after every car wash.

From experience, if you're not careful with putting your targa top back on the car, you can EASILY tear the top section of vertical weatherstripping on the rear of the window area. This happens when you reinstall the top and the rear section of the targa top's weatherstripping pushes against the weatherstripping at the top-rear corner of the window area, and folds it over - causing the tear.

The best way to avoid this is to check your top alignment before pushing the top all the way on the car.

Has not happened to mine. If your car is under warranty, they may cover it. Worth a shot.
