Default Speeding Ticket

We all know it is inevitable. Just got a ticket for 82 in a 65. Valentine 1 had no chance against this trooper with his laser. Glad he got me at only 82! Was motoring.... Will try to plead to a lesser charge as I have no points in the last 5 years. Careful out there!

sorry about the bad news but 82 in a 65 is pretty much a sign saying "look at me"....

geez here in northern illinois 85 in a 55 is the average speed. Many of us including myself usually cruise 90-100

I've had a few tickets in the last year, one being 20 over and the other 18 over and I had both dismissed here in Virginia. I belong to "Pre-Paid Legal" which is a prepaid legal service, and they will send an attorney for free to represent me on traffice tickets. Both times he got them dismissed over technicalities. I pay $16 a month (I think) and is well worth it. (They do other things to but this is what I've primarily used it for). Virginia doesnt allow Radar Detectors.

Same here, more or less. I'm used to cruising in the 70 to 85 range here most of the time. Almost all traffic here cruises at a consistent 10mph above the posted limit (55-65) unless it's during "rush hour". HPD is very tolerant up to 10. After that they will write though.

Could be worse.

If you'd been driving 82 in a 65 zone down here in Atlanta, you'd have gotten a ticket for impeading traffic.

Was on a four lane on the way to the ALMS races in Elkhart Lake Wis early sun morning and was cruising at 100. A trooper in an un marked suburban going the other way saw us and hit the brakes but by the time he got turned around and crossed the grass median I was in another zip code!!! I was d#$% lucky. Think I will buy a lottery ticket

What was the technicality? I live in VA and I have yet to get out of a radar ticket, other than doing the old calibration trick. As a matter of fact, 20 over is Reckless Driving I thought?

And you say you pay 16$/month for some type of legal service? That's less than 200$/year! That's cheaper than a 15 minute phone call with my attorney!!!!!!

What is this magical legal service and how to contact them?

Very much agree, 20 over is the minimum allowed over here

I may sell it too. For following or zipping through traffic the V1 is great. For laser or instant on when your alone, all detectors are useless. As we all know the fine is the least of the problem...court, insurance, the wife nagging you to slow down from now on, etc.

I was just thinking about getting a Valentine but now I'm having second thoughts. Do they or don't they work?

only protection against laser is going the speed limit. The spread of the laser beam is so small that any detector will not detect it unless its pointing right as you. THey can shoot at the car next to you and you would be none the wiser w/ any detector. a V1 WILL save your butt time and time again!!

If I am only going to be warned by the V1 when the laser is already shot directly at me, it seems it is too late... so how will the V1 be saving my butt time and time again!!

Where abouts did he nail you, On the interstate or one of many parkways up there? Just wondering since I go out to LI at least once a month and the traffic is always moving 70 to 80 mph.

Sorry for 'ya!
Reading the replies lets me believe that the LEO's from different areas have different standards. So, how do you know what to do when you're a "guest?"
I use a part of the PA turnpike daily and find that I can drive by the radar at 72 (posted 65) without drawing any attention. And I see that some of you tell us that they'll "give you" 20!
I guess it all depends on where you drive.
Hope you can get some relief from the "gotch 'ya!"
