Default Looks like i will be keeping my C5 for a long time

Went to Carlise this year with three other vette owners and wingmen in each car. Hanging out was fun but i do not think i'll be going back to the show. It seems to me to be a great place if you are restoring a car as the swap meet is huge and i did buy some stuff for my C5 there even. All in all though it was just not worth all of the driving and dealing with heat etc. I think mid august is the worst time of year to have something like that. The heat was just unbearable and ,ade for a very unenjoyable time. Dont get me wrong it is cool to see all the vettes but it just was not what i expected. Basically a big car show with a swap meet. Maybe i expected to much

I was able to get a center console lid for 30 bucks mint with was good because mine had a little wear. Also i got the owners video that came with the car new and a diecast of my car a few other little things. It was just too damn hot!

One thing i did see was a lot of C6's. I wanted to like the car as the photos gave me mixed feelings. Now i know it is not for me. I actually like the front and think it is the best angle of the car in person. The rest of it was very disappointing. It looked way to chopped up, small and japanese. Sometimes it looked like a mustang the rear looks like an early C4 and the car is just oo damn small. Also and this was mine and others biggest gripe. It is not made for taller people. I am 6'4" and had to put the seat all the way down, all the wayy back, rock the upper part of the seat back into a very bad spot and telescope the wheels so i could reach it to have a chance of not looking out over the windshield. I had the dealer put the roof on and lets just say i am glad i am not claustraphobic. BAD interior space. Legs area is much narrower too. I was hoping to like the car to have something to aspire towards but i guess i'll be waiting for the C7.

Anyway just some opinions. Won't be going next year and none of the other 7 that went with me are planning on it either. 2 of trhe 8 like the C6. I like the front but the rest was a huge letdown.

I think the lines of the C5 are what drew me to it. I know the latest craze is these sharp edges and the "bubble" era is over. But to me the C5 will go down with the much older vettes as a timeless design.

Guess i just wanted to say that i still love my C5 after sitting in the C6. I would not consider it an upgrade at this point. The C5 was really ahead of its time.

Mods locked a similar thread. I think this is C5 pertinent. I would hope there would be no reason not to allow comment. I am curious as to what other C5 owners thought after being at the show.

My impressions are, this was my first year at Carlisle also and the first year for my 04 C5. It was hot, very hot but living around DC you come to expect that in August. I really enjoyed seeing the vintage racers. I roamed around and tried to take in as much as possible in a single day. Lots and lots of parts for sale and accessories. I was looking for a cover and got some advice from 2 people selling them, so that was helpfull. I bought some accessories for my car and I could see them before I purchaced them, that was good. I'm sure there was a lot of stuff that I missed and I will attend again next year.
My C-6 impressions are that it's not as pretty as a C-5, its just different. I sat in it and it was ok but I'm only 5'7. I expect that to truely evaluate the car you would have to drive it. There is where the differences may stand out.

You know I agree with you on the return visit Bob. Don't think it will happen! I am not a big fan of the C6 either.

Some interesting comments on the C6. Some of them are the same as my thoughts based on looking at pictures. Thanks!

I still have not seen one, but plan to keep my four year old C5 forever.

I've never been the Carlisle, so some day I hope to go. Just to say I have been if nothing else. I like the looks of the C6, but won't get one for one reason - I still like my C5 too much to part with it.

I was glad when I saw a C6. I will be waiting for a C7!!!

Things I don't like:
1. looks too small
2. looks too square
3. front looks like my last camaro
4. side/fender looks like a mustang
5. back looks big and fat...like my wifes butt

When you put a C5 next to a C6 .... the C5 looks sleek and exotic and the C6 looks STUPID

I've had 3 vettes and each newer generation I've like better as far as looks from the get go. The C6 looks are very disapointing. I'm sure it has some performance characteristics better than the C5. But I'm tired of little performanec differences and small hp increases.

The fact is the C5 has all the performance I need but the C5 never had nearly the on-tap hp I wanted. And the C6 HP is no different. If the C6 was 1200 lbs lighter then the would be a benefit.

Also, drivers will be never able to see its true performnace ability unless they get it on a Road Course. And even then the tires will be the week link. And that even applies more so in the street. There is only so much perfrmance one will get from street tires.

I've been twice and I still haven't seen it all.

I show up about 10 and leave about 4 when I've had all the heat I can take.

I'll be back.

C6 - I sat in it. Felt just like the C5 I had just spent 3 hrs in.

Waiting on the Z06 version to make up my mind.

ditto on all above, I said if I did not like the C-6 I was going to buy a new Harley, much to my wife's surpaise, that's what I did, I'll wait a few more years before I vette shopping again, meanwhile I'll continue to enjoy my 2000,

and as a PS, that PINK "Vickie" car was just terrible,

I agree with everyone else on this thread...the C6 is a HUGE disapointment! I truely love my 99 C5 and will NEVER sell it NO matter what.

The Vicki car made me want to

The best part I like about Carliale is hanging out with good friends and partaking in the good times.

That is more then 1/2 the point of going to a show like this. To socialize and meet people with the same passion you have. I struck up a dozen conversations with strangers I never meet before and talked Vettes and other cars. I like to thank forum members, Tom, Mike and Steve for letting me hang with them and showing me ropes of the Carlisle Vette show. I will be going back next year and I will also participate in the parade again.

To me a good paint job makes the car. I love my mag./red black top vert. C5. I got over 10K off MSRP. O percent for 5 years. The C6 would cost more than 10K plus I would be paying 5.5%. When I added it all up the C5 is a steal! I have a cool looking ride! The C6 I like but not enough to put out lots more $$$.

Interesting timing about this thread. I went to a cruise in car show last saturday. Seen my first C6 up close and personal. I was very dissapointed to say the least. The lines of the car didn't seem to flow like they do on the C5. In fact, When I heard people telling that a C6 was driving in, my heart beat a little faster then it pulled around the corner and I saw it. I had the same feeling when I found out that Santa and the Tooth Fairy were all hype. Now there were a few things that I liked about the car. But not enough to trade in my C5.

I said I'd keep my '93 forever...then the C5 grew on me and after driving it I purchased my '99. Not saying it would happen again, but I bet the C6 will grow on me in a few years as well..
