To answer your first question, it's not calculated on miles driven, but rather number of engine revolutions (RPM), oil temp., etc.

An easy way to reset the oil monitor is turn the ign key "on" but don't start the car, and fully depress the gas pedal 3 times in a row, one right after the other.

I believe the monitor will never display more than 99%.

It will display 100% right at the point of reset.

Hmm. O.K. But it seems like the last time I changed the oil, it went straight to 99%. Keep in mind I didn't use the gas pedal method; I reset it from the switch panel. But I would think the logic would be identical. I'll try and remember what it does next time. I'm also wondering if it could vary between the older (pre 2001) vs newer (post 2001) model years.

How to Reset the "Oil Life" indicator

After an oil change, you need to reset the oil life indicator so that you know when the next change is due. Here is how to do that:

1) Turn the ignition on, but make sure the engine is off.

2) Press the "Trip" button on the DIC so that it displays "OIL LIFE" percentage.

3) Press and hold the "Reset" button for two seconds. "OIL LIFE REMAIN 100%" should appear on the display.

I had the same problem - the reset button didn't allow it to go back to 100%. I used the "pump the pedal three times" and it worked like a champ. Not sure why, but the reset feature only blanked my out, but didn't put it to 100%.

Either method will work and I always get 100% as soon as I'm done. Mabye that extra 1% means I'm special
