Default Bars under front bumper/Black Plastic Pieces

I've noted since getting my new Vette that scraping the black plastic pieces under the front bumper is seemingly impossible to avoid. In fact, I can't even get out of my driveway without them scraping. And, I go out an an angle. I noticed the two steel bars that are affixed in the front of and extend behind the front bumper even have some scrape marks on them. Would I be correct to assume these bars are very firm and obviously there to protect the bumper/car from unavoidable scrapes? Thoughts? Thanks. Dan

Join the crowd. The plastic/rubber air dam side pieces are flexible. The center section is hinged and folds up. The two metal bars are suicidal and get beat up anyway.

Yes, I believe that is a correct assumption. Also, the air damn is flexible so it gives somewhat when it scrapes.

Those black plastic pieces are the front spoiler. The one in the middle directs air at the radiator, because there is no grille on a C5. Without it the car will overheat and cause damage to that big aluminum thing called the engine.

Stevie,

I think he was talking about the black braces underneath... those damn obnoxious braces that get beat up every time. I have yet to have a vette in my shop that didn't have them things scraped/damaged/bent or twisted.

...and to think I actually wanted to lower my car. WTF was I thinking?

Dayum!!! StevieB I learn so much from you all the time. Layne had said that thing was called "Fred" on his car.

but you can protect the front skid bars with A & A frame savers and if your car is lowered, I'd also recommend Rocker Rails

Where is Layne when you need him? I feel so lost and all alone.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

BTW TkitPlz, I wasn't trying to be a smart a*ss in my other post. Just goofing around.

I think we all have these two problems. I have replaced my air dams once so far and have had a few scrapes on the metal bars.

I (stupidly) hit a curb bending the r/h skid bar to the point of cracking a piece of the bumper cover and "cheese grating" the underside of the bumper. I'm faced with having it repaired which I assume would include replacing the entire front bumper, skid bar bracket assy, and re-paint. I've taken it to two shops and they advise me to leave it alone as the mag. red paint probably won't match. None of the damage is visible unless you're under the car, but I know it's there. Just curious what you'all would do. The ins. is only $250 deduc.

StevieB: No sweat dude! Couldn't think of the terminology. I've only had my new Vette since Wednesday, so I'm trying to learn the language, nuances, etc. Amazing how much one does learn in a few short days. Dan
