I just did this. You need a wrench to reach the side terminals of the battery (Auto Zone has them and other places if you don't have one or something else to use). Try not to drop anything like bolts and such under the battery 'cause they're hard to get out and rattle around. I had to reset my clock. Other than that I removed an AC Delco and put in an Optima in no time.

Get the 9 volt battery adaptor that fits in the cigarette lighter and you don't have to reset anything. Also, make sure you get the GM tie down clamping bracket that goes with the Optima battery.

It really is no big deal - I did it back last year (so long ago ) when I knew nothing. Now a C4 battery is a different deal...

Its a little known fact but in order to change a battery...and this is for the 2000 models only, you have to do it only during a full moon and on the 3rd thursday of only the even numbered months.

The actual removal of the battery cables must be done with a pair of vice grips blessed by a voodoo shaman. Now you could probably do the whole thing the old fashioned way and skip all of the above steps, but if it goes wrong you have nobody but yourself to blame. Good luck!!

When I changed the battery in my '99, I did all of the above exactly as stated...and I had no problems at all. There is real truth in what he said.

To funny!!! But weve all been there. No nothing bad is going to happen. I take my battery out every winter now. The first winter I didn't because some people said it would loose programming. Nothing but scare tactics. In and out no problemo.

You may have to unlock your radio if you have the theft lock activated, but that is about all.

How do you tell if the theft lock is activated?

Glad to see sarcasm is alive and well in the forum.

Disconnect and the positive (red) terminal first, and reconnect it last. Make sure that the alarm system isn't on when you disconnect the old battery otherwise the first thing that you will hear is the alarm going off when you put the positive terminal back on.

BTW, corking avatar lager99.
