Default OMG! I thought things couldn't any worse!!!

I just went to pick my car up from the dealer yseterday after having a my tranny swapped. I lost 3rd and over drive in it. First off the dealer didn't put my old yank converter back in. They installed a stock one. They say they don't know if it was the tranny or converter and they won't install it. I mean it is pretty damn obvious it was the tranny. So then I am driving it home and it starts to stall and cut out. I'm like "what the hell". Then the check engine light comes on (which is actually nothing new), and the RPM gauge is bouncing all over the place then it just slams to 0 and never moves again. I drive back to the dealer and I'm like "What the hell did you do to my car!" They hook up the Tech 2 to it to see what is up. I have a mass air sensor and throttle position problem. Now I have had these faults for like 4 years now. Ever since I started moding I've had these faults. I tell them this and they say it doesn't matter how long you had them we have to fix that before we can find out what else is wrong.
I don't see how any of this has to do the RPM's registering at 0 and my car running like it only has half the plugs firing.
They say they can't start fixing the problem untill the car is in it's original state. That means they want me to buy and get this list of sh*%, a new computer (cause mine has a custom tune from WC), cat converts, oxygen sensors, TB, mass air sensor, and even the original intake. This like 2 or 3 thousand dollars and that is just so they can start fixing the problem. I don't know what the hell to do. I can't take the car to a tuner cause I'm in Germany and they don't have tuners here. They say the only way the can work on the car is if it is in its original state so they know where to go with that damn Tech 2!!!! I'm clueless on this one.

Oh and I forgot to add that this has to fixed cause I actually have sold my car and I told the buyer I would fix the tranny before he got it. Now this!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya can you beleive this crap. I can't even get them to look at the plugs or to see if a vaccum line is loose or something. I am going to go there tomorrow and see if I can (make) them do something.

Try some of the base local hobby shops! Believe it or not there is allot of knowledge on base at the hobby shops! Save me a bunch of EURO when I was there! Also, I think there is German Corvette Club in Manheim and Heidelberg and some of them are forum members! You may want to post a new thread looking for corvette owners in Germany and find out where they take their car too! Are you taking you car to the German Dealers?

I'm sure there is a Vette Source Shop in Germany! I can almost bet on it! Did you have ADAC! If you do you may be able to call and see where there is a Chevrolet Dealer or Corvette Shop in Germany! They are supposed to have all that information. However you do have two other alternatives, which maybe not the best choice but if you cannot get it resolved there!

United Kingdom has a vette shops I know! You will probably have to tow it, which may cost you around 600 Euro, but I am sure one month of cola with pay for that trip!

Other alternative is to tow it to bremohave(SP) and ship it to a vette specialist to make sure your SHIZNIT is done correctly! It may cost, but it's your baby and I am sure she is worth it!

Makes you hate dealers, doesn't it. The idea to contact other forum members there and see what they do for repairs is a good one. Hopefully someone will lead you to a shop that can diagnose the problem and get it fixed for you.

You could try Here Or Bauer Millet in Manchester. But be warned Bauer Millet pretty much charge you a couple of hundred quid just to take your keys off you.

Good luck.

Yes I have talked to them a few times. I always talk to Martin Roos. He is the owners son. I was going to have some work done there before. I was acrually going to have my tranny done there but he was going to charge 1000 euro compared to 400 @ Bitburg. They do an all right job there, but I'd do the headers yourself. i did my own about 4 years ago. Give me a yell if you'd like some help. We could do it on base, or i'll just drink a couple beers and watch ya. Is your vet black?

Never mind read your sig and yes you are who I thought you were. Oh and I have you beat on A60 194mph. Before my gears were done though. Now I am 186 also. Give me a yell sometime x-5383 Derek Miller (SSgt)

Ok got what might be a ray of light. I will find out tomorrow though. I just got off the phone with Chuck and Dan at FLP. Dan told me to just tell them swap out the tach module. He said that sounds like what the problem is and is known to be hunk a pooh. He said they have done a lot of work a bunch of times to it since 98. He also told me to tell them hook up the T-2 and take it to full throttle make sure the TPS is registering 4.6 volts. If not adjust it. He said any Idiot can do this. I reitterated (sp) where I was and he laughed. So wish me luck and I will post again tomorrow with the results!!!!

PLEASE pull up all of the codes and post them and maybe we can talk you through the problems or make some recommendations for you to tell the service guys! Sounds like the some easy problems to overcome!

The codes are:
10PCM

P0410 C
P1120 H
P1221 H

28TCS
C1278 H
C1281 H
The dealer said the 410 code went away when they took my Granatelli MAF off and put one on from a camaro they had sitting in the lot. Dan at FLP said that didn't make any sense though. He also told me to measure the voltage for TPS to possibly get rid of those 2 codes, and he said to just swap out the tach module to possible fix the tachometer problem and the stalling.
What you guys think?

I feel your frustration but in all fairness, if you expect any dealer to try to repair anything while your car is throwing codes, it ain't gonna happen. They're going to want to fix (a) problem before they check out (b) and (c) problem... otherwise they could be chasing their tails.

I know many times I have tried to diagnose something and made the mistake of believing the in the customer when they say "yeah, yeah, everything's okay until this point"... I'll end up checking it and find out it was something that they should have checked and didn't.

I'm not saying your mods are causing the problem but I can't think of any techs who will attempt to do electrical/code diagnostics without fixing the basics first.

Hope you get your situation rectified quickly.

Also, why have you been driving your car that long with codes? Why not fix them right the first time?

I don't mind doing mods but I hate it when people disconnect sensors, unplug check lights, etc, etc instead of fixing what's wrong. Obviously something is wrong or the code/light wouldn't be going off.

Good luck getting it done soon.

Mark

I'm sorry you're going through this. I do understand the dealer's dilemma but I wish it would have started out better for you. It does sound from reading the thread that you're making some progress and I hope it continues to go well. I'm sure with all the forum help and the local shop you will get it fixed up good to go. Too bad it had to be so painful in the meantime.

Paul
