Chilton or Haynes Manuals for C5?
Hi...
I was looking to get something along the lines of a Haynes or Chilton service/repair manual for my '98 'Vette - I used to be able to get these for all of my older cars.
But from what I've found so far, they seem to have only published a 1998 manual that covers like 30 different cars including the Corvette...so I'm guessing that this is too generic to be of much use.
Has anyone found anything along these lines?
Thanks...Robert

Don't waste your time, get the factory manual from Helm. The information in the Helm Manual is specific to your year Corvette and is very detailed.

The factory manuals are the best. I have a 1997 Coupe. I was looking for manuels on ebay. I found the Preliminary Sevice Manuels for a 1997 Corvette they have a white cover and say preliminary on them. The factory manuals have red covers. I got them for $14.95 +$10 dollars shipping. I am not going to do majors repairs so it's a great reference guide. I have used volumn one 3 or 4 times. These are first issue and have errors of course, but what I was looking for was correct. It work for me.

You can also go here http://www.corvettedoctor.com/esi2005_infomation.htm and get the manual on CD. I purchased mine this week for $40 and will be picking them up tomorrow. Another post earlier this week pointed me there. I already have the hard copy version but this has search features and all models from '92 to '04. Check it out.

To specifically answer your question, neither Haynes or Chilton prints a C5 manual.
Haynes/Chilton are now basically the same company as Haynes publishes Chilton Total Car Care Manuals under license, just as Nichols Publishing did prior to Haynes taking over. My company is an auto parts distributor, and we sell these manuals in our stores. But, only C3 and C4 manuals are available...

Should not matter for an older Vette, but the actual latest release for the GM CD set is 11-2004 (Version SI.2004.19) (I know, I have a set). Not sure if the version that they adverise as the latest (9-27-2004), would contain C6 information; if ever required.
