Stack two of them and tape or shrink wrap then together (wrap on 4 sides so they become a single package). Apply your shipping label to the tape.
That's the way I get them from the Tirerack.

I use Fed Ex Ground. Very reasonable in price. I wrap them in plastic and tape. IF they have wheels...I cut out Cardboard inserts to tape over the wheels.

wheels
I have sold a lot of wheels on ebay...If you decide to ship two tires together make sure you place labels on both tires in case they separate...also ups will surcharge you $10 per tire, not sure why but they do.

I've had good luck with FedEx ground, and I found them to be the most economical. UPS also wanted a surcharge if the tires weren't boxed. Although I know TireRack ships tires "au naturel", I personally preferred to box them for some additional peace of mind, and went to a local appliance store. They were happy to get rid of empty boxes. I found a cardboard carton from a TV close in size to what I needed (2 tires), and "adapted" it to the right dimensions with a utility knife and some tape.
