This scamming crap is really $^##^*@ me off
I can't keep it in anymore, I got to vent. I am so grateful that this forum exists and I personally have benefited from it, I just hate to see people getting ripped off. People's hard earned money being taken. Its not right. And it seems to be happening a lot lately. It seems to go through spurts?
Mods I'm sorry for posting this out in the open and I'm sure it will get locked or removed but to all those who have been taken lately I am truly sorry to you.
I'll even offer this, I would start 10 dollars in a paypal account to kickstart a collection to give back to those who have been scammed lately, just to get something back to all of you. Anybody else? Lot of members here. Anybody else mad as hell???
OK, I'm done ranting, let me get off my soapbox and hope I dont get a vacation.
Maybe I will see you all in a couple of weeks.

For the most part 99.99% of the scams can be avoided.
1. Use Paypal ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
2. Dont paypal anyone unless theyre verified!!!!!!!!!!
If theyre verified then youll get your money back, if theyre not youre SOL.
I have a hard time believing that youde get ripped off if you follow these two steps.

Not always.
I bought an Passport on fleabay from a Verified PP member.
It threw Service Now codes from day one. I called Escort, they said send it in and repairs will be $60. So I went to PayPal after the seller refused to pay for the repairs or refund my $$. PayPal said that I had to get "an independent repair facility to verify the need for repair and I had 10 days to do so" I called Escort and they said it would take at least two weeks to even look at the unit .........sent it anyway. At the end of the PayPal 10 day deadline, still no news from Escort so they closed my case. I am out the $60. Life goes on, but PP does NOT always support the buyer/member.

American Express through my paypal acct. American express has had no problem holding payments for me whenever I have had a problem. But then again there is a yearly fee for that.

Wonder if anyone would mind a buck or two per transaction as a slush fund to cover people who get burnt?
Nah,On second thought,I guess not.........
Even though I wouldn't mind it( and most all honest members wouldn't either)It would just become to difficult to administer. Then, when some of these "part"orists got wind of it,they would probably converge and scam it into bankrupcy
This has to end.......

I really like the trader rating on LS1tech and some other sites. You can see actual feedback and refers to the thread to see how things went down if they are to your liking. Not sure what it takes to put something like that together for this site but just a suggestion.

Use ONLY a credit card for purchases. When using Paypal also ONLY use a credit card. Also, NEVER file a credit card dispute with Paypal. They jack you around and have a $25 "deductible you never get back.
With a credit card one call to the card company and they handle the dispute with no deductible. Painless.

As I understand it, PayPal will only enter a dispute when used within eBay. And they can't (or won't) retrieve any funds from an account with no funds in it. As far as bad folks selling and buying in here, It's too easy for them to just open a new application on here with a different or fictitious name and WaLa! they're a Noobie again off to scam someone else. It's a shame anytime you assemble this many folks a small percentage of low lifes degrade it for the majority of good people.

I hear ya. And what is sad is, this forum, which I like and have been here since 1999, chooses to only list the good sellers and buyers, but fails to keep a list of the deadbeats. Could there be some sort of legal reason? I can't imagine why this is the case, and this has puzzled me for years...yes, this is not a new problem.

I've bought tons of stuff through the 3SI car forums, there there is a seller and buyer rating system similar to ebay, also.. in order to sell somthing you have to confirm your identity with the admins and become a verified seller.
I've bought lots of stuff and never had a problem. Those two countermeasures seem to help buyers be safe IMO.

I like the way, when ripped off buyers round up people in the sellers town. To talk to him/her

I was ripped off once by a guy in Ohio. Turned out he only lived 30mins from my wifes uncle. I only wished her uncle would have video taped that late night knock on his door. And somehow I got extra for my troubles??
I'm willing to chip in for a Bounty Hunter. We put the money in a pool, when a deadbeat shows up, we send out bounty hunter with a camcorder. Then.... we'll get our money back and get to enjoy a video too.

I don't think putting a fund together will do any good. It's well intentioned but you know it will only cause even bigger problems. Who should contribute, how much, who didn't, who is deserving, who is not, etc. etc. Besides, if I lost money to a scammer, I don't think I would feel any better collecting money from the good members on this site.
Maybe the best thing to do is to make people more accountable and that can be done by forcing members to disclose more personal information to the administrator of this site before selling. Something to verify who you are. This information is not to be made public, however, if it is determined that the seller or buyer has scammed then they will know that their names will be made public on a list of scammers. I don't know exactly how to go about it but it seems like this would be a significant deterent. There are sites that require a first and last name to be displayed as your username, in order to avoid the scamming that the sense of anonymity brings (Nikonians for example). Maybe something in that direction would help.
