C5 INSTALL KIT
You have two options for installing an Ipod/Iphone in your C5. First option is the PXDP/PXHGM4 kit which will allow you to plug n play into the back of your factory radio. Removal of bezel and radio for this option required.
Second option is the PXDP / PXHGM2 which will allow you to unplug your factory cd changer and plug the new pieces into the harness. After a few minutes of install time, run your cord to desired location and your ready to use your Ipod or Iphone.

You will replace the changer with the Ipod intall kit.
If you have a changer its a simple unplug the changer from the harness and plug in the intall kit, run cord to front of car and your done.
You will not be able to retain the changer.The advantages of the ipod in having hundreds of your favorite songs versus the loss of the cd changer is a huge gain with this mod
You can also plug into the back of the head unit even if you have a changer and want this option but you will still not retain the changer.

So let me just clarify... the PXDP/PXHGM4 will work in my 97 c5 with an iphone 3g/3gs and will plug into the back of the factory radio, and i will be able to control the music from said iphone, and it will also charge my iphone?

will work just fine
you will need the pxhgm4 option to plug into the back of the head unit
if you do have a cd changer you can unplug it use the pxhgm2 option and plug into the changer harness.
both work the same one is just an easier install(back of the car) versus taking off bezel and plugging into the back of the radio.

i have to be honest and say I need some help answering this one.
I have a Kenwood DD unit in my car and not even close to the same functions.
any care to help me answer?
