I have some new "Koolsox" style wire protectors from Jegs. They are red and actually are really good quality.

I only took one of them out of the package to size them up for my xspower header install. It turns out I do not need them, and used the stock metal protectors. None of my wire come close to the headers.

Paid $49.99 plus shipping.

These are the type with the metal ring sewn in, and they are 6" long. The ring goes towards the spark plug side and may not work with the stock metal protectors.

A bump for you...I can verify that these will NOT work with the stock metal protectors as is. You will have to modify them to make them work. I bought the same ones only blue and put them on over my metal protectors. So my entire wire is protected right up to the coil pack. I too like you figured I may not need them but wanted to be better safe then sorry running headers. I have had them on the car for 3 years now. All I did was carefully cut the top parts where the metal rings were. The fraying or unraveling was kept to a minimum and barely happened. I then just rolled the tops down like they were originally. They have been fine since the install.

Great set of protectors for your wires especially if you run headers. They dress up the engine too especially if your wires are just plain black or if your like me and didn't want the red wires showing. My engine bay is all black and blue.
