How much does this affect the cooling of the car and will it require any pcm reprograming

The car will run at 160°, the engine runs cooler and will create more HP in warmer temps. It does not require a reprogram of the pcm.

How will the car run at 160 after driving in the Texas heat for a while after the stat has opened without a fan tune?

Bill, with the lower temp thermostat, it will open sooner, pushing more coolant through everything. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong). Your fan will still turn on at the same temperature it would otherwise.

I am wondering the same question...

I have the Hypertech 160 stat in my 2001 C5 here in Florida... I also have the Hypertech programmer which I adjusted for the stat...

My car consistently runs 190 to 200 almost everyday... I don't understand how the stat and programmer are supposed to keep it at 160 either... I have had others tell me that my radiator could be getting plugged or coolant jackets... I have not flushed anything as of yet but think that will be my next step... I did do a change on coolant when I put the stat in as the car is 12 years old... I know the Dex-cool GM uses is supposed to be good for 100k miles but the age of things made me do it...

I guess I would love to know why with the 160 stat in my car why does it not run 160?

Mike.

I'll take it. Bought a new DeWitts and Spaal fans a few weeks ago, might as well get a new 160 T-stat for the install as well. Thanks,Tom M.

I just don't see how the car runs any cooler in hot weather, mine runs at 200 plus all the time on hot days in traffic. I don't see how the stat will change that ? Am I wrong ?
