If you don't track your car, what you care about is looks and ride quality. These wheels and tires will both look and ride better than your stock wheels and runflat tires.
I too was overly concerned with what "some guys" said. In the end I went with what made my car look and ride the way I wanted. Besides, the large majority of opinions on this site come from guys that drive stock Vettes.
