Diablo Predator u 7198 question
I have a fairly stock 99 Vert with a K&N intake system and the Borla Quad stinger with x pipe. I have this Diablo Predator tuner and have set my car to the Diablo tune that is built in to the unit.
Since I am a daily driver and don't really race it, it this the best option for me?? I have the highway gears 2.73. I was told that a change to 3.15 is a waste and that I needed to go up to the 3.42 but would definitately suffer gas mileage (to be expected) but I would jump off the line faster. I have an automatic with 42k on it so I'm not trying to dog my ride just get a little more boost. Is the Diablo tune the best that I should do or should I customize it and to what?
Suggestions???

yes, the Diablo Tune will be good for starters, as long as you're using GOOD 93 octane gas....
do you have the new version 7198 that can save/record data logs?
what revision is your predator on? when it powers up, completes booting up and is sitting at the main menu, the revision number is shown at the top of the screen...
it would be a 2.xx or 9rxx number... what is it??
the NEW version 7198 tool would be a 9rXX revision number...
the old ones will be a 2.xx number...

How much for a custom tune for my U7198 to just disable my fuel system cutoff and set it to 255 mph so my column lock (which has been removed) doesn't ever strand me?

can't go by other people's settings man... every car runs differently... your location/altitude/elevation/mods/etc all make a difference...
what works for one person's car, doesn't mean it will work or be the right setting for YOUR car...
do some data logging and see how things look for YOUR car... and go from there....

Diablo sport Programmer.
By sharing different set-up that people have used and work find for them would be a good head start to try out for people that does not know where to start our how to do it. If you dont have a recent modele of diablo sport programmer the tune thats in it is not to hot I have the first model with the black casing. If I whant it updated it will cost me with the shipping almost as much as if I buy a used but more recent model.

I am really surprised by the difference the Predator made for me today. I recently bought a C5 (99 auto, 3:15's Blackwing, Bassani X-pipe otherwise stock 60K miles.). A friend of mine has an 11 Mustang GT. We raced earlier today and it was about dead even and if he could drive a stick better he probably would've beat me. He was pretty proud of that Ford until I reminded him that my Vette cost me less than half what he paid for his car.
Anyway, I had this Predator, (new version) I bought used and I went home and put the performance tune in. I was very doubtful it would help since I do my own programming on my 383 N20 95 Camaro, and in my experience GM engineers leave very little on the table when it comes to stock programming.
The car felt SOP quicker, but being a drag racer, I put little in SOP feel. So I called my buddy up and said lets try it again, and this time even with him doing alot better job shifting, I had him by at least a car length to 100 m.p.h.
I was very surprised there was that much left on the table by GM. Later this summer, I think I'll take it to the strip, and run it back to back with the stock tune, but I'm guessing there is at least 2 tenths in the Pred. tune over the stock one.

Enjoy my tune
So I got some settings to start my journey from a board member here. What I like best about my tune is I've got great acceleration, crisp shifts, and when I choose to cruise at 65mph the DIC reads between 35-38mpg... What the translates to at the pump when I calculate is 30-33mpg (sometimes a bit higher)! But when I wanna stop on it, spin the wheels and go I've got all the power i need too!
What I would like maybe is to see what ideal ranges are for the air bank, etc. I guess as a novice I may not be totally understanding the differences of the altitude, location, etc. But correct me (since I'm prob wrong!), it may take a different setting +/- for me to get to the ideal range given my location, but I would know what number to shoot for, right? And other things, like what setting to put in for cooling fan is less subjective, right?

Btw my setup is:
Vararam power duct, w vararam intake, magna flow magna pack (15763 I think), then the tune, stock cat and headers. I would like a tune that is (even) more ideal for 89 octane since it is same price as regular here in MN usually.
