how can I tell if my car has a stock tune
#26
After looking at the wedding invite we're going to be staying in Merrillville, Indiana Friday night. Looks like we aren't going to too much farther into Chicagoland than that as the wedding is in La Porte, Indiana and reception is in Gary, Indiana. Can meet fairly late Friday night or before/during reception in Gary which starts at 5. We're only looking at staying at the reception a few hours.
Edit - It looks like work is going to be sending me back to the Rolling Meadows area again pretty regularly starting later this month so we can do this on a future work trip farther northwest into Chicagoland.

There were several things that came up in the HPTuners Comparison Log between what I downloaded from Dyver's car and the 99 stock tune I pulled down from the HPTuners tune repository:
Throttle Follower Delay Time vs. Speed (In Neutral)
Cranking Charge Temperature (sq. rootk) vs. ECT
Bad vss Fuel Cutoff RPM
Bad vss Fuel Resume RPM
DFCO Enable Temp
DFCO Enable Temp (Clutch Transition)
LTFT Min ECT
IAT Spark Advance Correction - Add
Knock Learn Min Min MAP
Burst Knock Enable Delta Cyl Air Threshold vs. RPM
Burst Knock Retard vs. RPM
Maximum Knock Retard vs. MAP (Not in Power Enrich)
Knock Sensor Global Gain vs. MAP vs. Cyl
Misfire Detection Min Temp
Master DTC List
TCC lock during shift option
Platform Type
Speedo ABS PPM
It didn't seem as if some of the parameters that would normally be changed if his was a custom tune were changed. Obviously there are some that would likely be changed, such as the Knock Sensor Gain if a cam had been installed, but all in all his tune looks to be simply changes Chevy made over time. If anyone thinks otherwise weigh in so Dyver can have the benefit of everyone's insight.

Thanks for posting the differences that you saw. Hopefully somebody else will chime in besides "why do I want to do that" or "should have bought this".

I reviewed Dyver's tune and the "stock" one I downloaded from the HPTuners tune repository. Dyver's tune is indeed for a Y-body, but the "stock" tune indicates it is for a GMT530 platform, which is a medium duty commercial truck! Strange...

I hadn't even paid attention to that parameter - thanks for catching that.

Might be why they say not to pull tunes from the repository and use them. You have no idea wth someone posts there and if it's done maliciously. Amazing though that all the tables match. No way would a truck tune look anything like a Vette.
This is all above my expertise.

OK so the tune from HP was not correct and my tune is for a Y body which is Corvette. I might end up stuck paying a stealership after all. Unless somebody else has any thoughts.

Yea, I have thoughts. Ask anyone who's got a stock tune to send it to ya and once again do a compare. I don't know what your car is but I do have a stock tune here for a 98 Auto which I'd be happy to send, but if your car is newer that's not going to work out.
You already know the tune is predominately the same. I'm not sure why you care at this point. If you're going to tune it yourself anyway, then the stock numbers are already in the tables you have and the parameters which were changed are listed above. Many only have 2 options so it's not hard to figure out what it was stock.
The things that matter for a tune are going to be stuff you change anyway. As for having a point of reference, you know you already have that.

And if you want to know if the stock tune listed on the HPT repository is indeed stock, then download 4 or 5 of em for different years which materially match yours and compare all of em. If they are more or less all the same, then pick one and use it as the baseline.

This is the part I don't get. If so, then returning it to stock really ins't necessary. As long as the vehicle starts you can easily do what you want without paying the fees to get it 'reset'.
I'm sure Greg is offering the service of his Tech2, as would I. I just built the harness for that and can both tune and program on my bench. I just did 2 PCMs last weekend (my own, swapping out and returning one to stock that wasn't necessary). I did see this thread and would have offered to do yours if I thought you wanted it, but not until I had the harness built and I wasn't done with that till I had only 18 hours left on the subscription. (only get 24 hours).
If you sent me your VIN, I can tell you what the OS is on that PCM (or what it's supposed to be anyway). From there, you can decide if restoring it to factory is needed or just a waste of time and money. Imho, it's a waste of time and money. There's probably 100 people who will be happy to supply you a stock tune that you can copy on to the controller after you've got HPTuners or EFI Live up and running.
Worst case, if you're doing this yourself and want to be sure not to get hosed on fees, PM me or ask here before paying a subscription or license because I just found out the hard way it's easy to get hosed on this.
