Default Bought heads/cam engine. Need advice on tuning current PCM or using other PCM

So I got a used engine that had some work done to it (head work and cam swap) I was wondering, I can get my hands on the PCM that was in the wrecked 99 Vette that has a tune for that engine. I have a 01 Vette and was wondering if I can just swap out the PCM's or should I get a custom tune? The reason being is the custom tune will be $500 whereas the shop will just give me the old PCM. Just trying to get advice and thoughts if swapping out the PCM will work or if I should just get the tune done at a local shop.

Thanks for any advice

Your 01 is a much more powerful PCM & I don't believe you can swap out the PCM's as in plug & play. The expense & time to do that besides being a backward step should go toward re calibrating your 01.

Its sounds like your replacement engine is mildly modified so re calibrating your 01 PCM should be very straight forward.

The two pcm's are pin compatible.
The 99 should be a 4896 pcm, the 01 is likely an 0411.
So you "could" do a swap.

But the operating software in your 01 is superior.

Tuning it is the best way to go.
