Bought some GM top engine cleaner. Directions for use?
I bought some cans of GM top engine cleaner because my 2000 has a slight pinging sound. I read here on the forum once about how to use this stuff but I can't find the search feature. Can anyone out there help with the directions? Thanks, Paul

Have someone rev the engine around 2,000 rpms....basically enough to keep the engine from getting killed, it'll want to die when you start running the cleaner thru. Disconnect the hose from behind the throttle body on the passenger side, and get another 3/8" (I think) hose and run it into the throttle body, and have the other end into the bottle of cleaner. Don't put the hose all the way in, the suction will be enough to suck cleaner thru from a distance. If you're running more than one bottle, don't let the engine die until right after the cleaner is gone. As soon as the cleaner is gone, turn the engine off. Don't restart the engine off for 8-12 hours to give the cleaner time to soften up the carbon deposits. It makes a LOT of smoke, but when I've done this (quite a few times) in Montgomery, no one cared, and you're basically in Montgomery, so I'm sure you'll be fine. If you think anyone will complain about the smoke, LOTS and LOTS of smoke, wait until the sun goes down. Either way, you better do this outdoors.

Did you have to but it by the case? All the dealers around here including gmpartsdirect.com only sell it by the case.

Word to the wise. Be very careful.
The use of the can goes back to the days of carbueretors. It involved pouring the stuff slowly down the carb without stalling the car, then you poured the last 1/3 of the can down until you stalled the engine.
You let it sit for a few hours, then restart it. Man, did it smoke. You'll think you blew the engine. Afterwards, it was reccomended to change the plugs.
Keep in mind this is a solvent. It will wash away oil from the cylinder walls. Pouring it down the intake on a FI car will not garantee you're getting equal distribution to all cylinders.
The true way of removing carbon deposits from a FI car involves blasting with walnut shells or dry ice. They do this through the spark plug hole. It is very effective and safe.
Be careful.

I know, hoping someone can still help with my question. I did an internet search and located this posting and could tell these guys knew what they were talking about and could probably help. If it needs redirecting to somewhere else can you perhaps do that for me, it would be massively appreciated!

OK, I do want to do that as well (decarbon motor). What is a REAL, REAL good cleaner for injectors or way to clean injectors? I "thought" maybe this cleaner could perhaps be used to clean injectors as well, but probably not I guess?

Funny... 15 yr old thread and yet google doesn't forget. Or anything else we've ever typed in a pipe dream.
I now have an 09 cobalt SS .... GDI and am looking for a better solution to clean carbon build up than walnut ice cream blasting my brains out (intake valves).
By now. ... in 2020... tons of research..... does any idiot engineer us, germany, japan ect have a better solution or is this truly the revelations spoken of.. anyone.. ?
or is this a huge money pit "they" invented. $$$
