Default Should this cam idle rough?

I have a 226 228 575 585 114 cam with stage 2.5 ls6 heads and my tuner/installer has my car idleing rough. By rough I mean it shakes the car noticably when in gear or park. I did not think this was that big of a cam. Also the sound it makes at idle is like the old muscle cars varum, varum, varum, varum. I don't have my hptuners yet but just wondering if this cam should be able to idle smooth.

Hey Bro, learn to love it if you dont already cause its there to stay.I personally think a rough idle is tough and most hotrodders do to so congratulations on a cool cam install.

I'm still learning but I would think that a 114 cam shouldn't have too much lope to it. I believe my G1 is on a 112 LSA and she has a little shake but nothing unbearable. I like when there are water droplets on the car because they shake in unison and it looks sweet!

Maybe the idle needs adjusting? What's RPM at idle?

You'll know a cam is in there. You can smooth out the idle by raising the idle rpm.

I think I am idleing at 900rpm now. I just put in a 2800 vigalante t/c to help with the idle. I think the rough idle sounds good but just wondering if the car should shake like it does?

I've heard that cam on a 112 in a c5 the motor shook a little but in the car very little noticable shake. Rough is very opinionated ..... but should sound great.

I have a G5X-3 w/114 LSA and the "D" idle is at 950rpms & 1000rpms in "P". A little bit of a lope [shake], yet I like it. What matters to me is it never surges or searches at idle [hope that makes sense ].

BTW, I have a Vigilante 2800 TC, too. The Vig2800 has nothing to do with the idle, unless I'm mistaken. The Vig2800 will help get you into & stay in the higher rpms when at WOT. Hope I explained that correctly.

Do you run a MAF?

Well, your cam is actually a little smallish with all respect, however it is difficult to tune this size when using the MAF.

Exactly. Eliminating the MAF function then proper speed density tuning would do wonders. Its the only way I will tune now. with speed density, you can tune a monster cam to run as smooth as stock. Very amazing.

First check the basics, make sure all coils/wires/plugs connected and firing, all sensors plugged in, etc.

Textralia / rwj

Interesting, are there negitives to SD tuning?
Do you turn the MAF funtion back on once SD tuning is complete?
Any How-To links explaining how to SD tune.

SD certainly takes some understanding... Ask rwj, he knows...

BTW, when you run 8tb’s, mass air flow meters get a little expensive….

No, you leave the maf off to stay in SD mode. you only turn the O2s back on to enable closed loop, but ONLY after some serious and patient tuning in other key tables within the PCM. There is a DIY speed density tuning outline/thread going on the HP Tuners website forum. However, i feel it is egregiously misleading, has some errors. SD tuning is not for the meek, but once it is understood, it is truly awesome. my expectations of SD tuning were greatly exceeded. But, again, it takes a lot of hard work and tenacity to truly understand it, get it really correct.
