Default Still knocking and pinging

I'm not able to get rid of the knocking and pinging in my '99 frc. I've tried fuel treatments, 93 Chevron w/ techron, and replaced the fuel filter. It knocks and pings under somewhat heavy acceleration in almost any gear. My last two options are to change the spark plugs or replace the knock sensor. Am I way off? Please advise.

Get a scantool and check the sensors, such as the O2, TPS, etc... Otherwise you will be chasing the problem forever. Any good shop can check those and not charge a fortune... But be sure all filters are good.

Does the problem happen at full throttle as well or just partial to heavy throttle?

Can you really hear it detonating?

I had the same issue with my 99 FRC. DROVE ME Never could get rid of it so i got rid of the car. Seemed to be HEAT related. Ran into others with 99s and many had the same issue. Coincidence? Maybe not. Now driving a heavily modded 02. No problems anymore!! Again, if all else fails look at your operating temperature as a potential issue and do what you have to do to try and keep it See if it eliminates the problem. Good luck!

Default Knock/ping

Thank you brothers and sisters. I think the next step will be to have a priest anoint my car with holy oil to cast out that demonic pinging.

Have you done any mods to your vette? My vette started pinging somewhat when I installed my blackwing air filter. It happened mostly on hot days and especially if I turned the air conditioner on. When I had my headers and LS1 edit installed, it turned out the vette was running too lean, my air/fuel ratio was corrected and now she purrs like a kitten growl like a tiger at WOT!

If not, I'd have the spark plugs changed. Maybe you've lost a puck or two on the spark plugs and that might cause the pinging.

If all else fails, take it to a good dealership, they should be able to diagnose the problem.

I have a 99 and used to have Knock Retard. About 5 degrees. It got worse after my h/c change. Then I installed a 160 degree t-stat and reprogrammed the fans. THen I started using Sunoco Ultra 94 octane. And finally I instaled NGK TR6 IX (iridium plugs). Knock retard is gone. I have since milled my heads .030" and still no KR. The 99 has a pretty aggressive stock spark table. You have to be willing to run the motor cooler, highest octane gas, and cooler plugs.
