Default I'm PULLING C5 ENGINE FROM TOP do I need to lower the engine cradle.

I'm pulling C5 from the top today to put in a 427... Someone told me I would need to lower the Cradel, to get the engine out, is that true? Any other tips would be helpful, I have most of the top end done..Thanks

Yes, I usually drop the cradle on a stand and pull the engine from the top.

Pulled mine from the top, left the cross member and steering rack in place Do this did require a bit of time and cussing to pull the engine though.

I suggest pulling from the bottom myself.

It looks like you can only slide the engine forward about 1" before the wings of the oil pan would hit the crossmember. Looking at pics of a torque tube I found online, it looks like the engine would have to be slid forward 5-6" to come off the input shaft. What am I missing?

Need to put the car on jack stands, support the engine from the top with a hoist, and drop the front cradle. Place a jack stand under the TQ tube as far forward as possible, slide engine forward to clear the TQ tube input shaft, lift engine out of car.

Note, make damn sure you engine lift has enough "lift" for the engine to clear the front end of the car!
