Default What exactly is the gymkhana suspension?

My 00 FRC has the gymkhana suspension. What exactly are the differences between that setup and the Z51?
Thanks

The Gymkhana Suspension (FE-7) was first introduced in 1974 and included a stiffer front sway bar and stiffer springs. It was pretty much a follow on to some of the earlier optional suspension packages, F-40, F-41, ZR-1, and ZO-7. The FE-7 option was offered through 1982 and continued to be refered to as the Gymkhana Suspension.

In 1984 the optional performance suspension became the Z-51 which included heavy-duty front and rear springs, shock absorbers, stabilizer bars and bushings, fast steering ratio, engine oil cooler, and extra radiator fan. The Z-51 package was tweaked over the years with changes in springs, swaybars and even the oil cooler, but it pretty much remained the top suspension package available on the Corvette through the 2004.

Some might refer to it (Z-51) as the "Gymkhana Suspension" but GM does not refer to it as such and I can find no reference to it after 1982. What makes you think you have a "Gymkhana Suspension" on top of the Z-51?

The fixed-roof is the only difference I can discern. The FRC has the extra brace behind the seats from the vert, and the halo bar from the coupe. Your suspension works better with a stiffer chassis, so Z51 on an FRC is not exactly the same as Z51 on a vert or coupe. This is my theory at least...

I have not seen GM or anyone else on this site talk about that option.. on the lighter side... all I know about it is.... it makes for a bad martial arts movie..

I have a 99FRC and BLACKTOP2000 has a 2000 FRC. The only differences that are discernable to us were the rear sway bar and the endlinks. The rear sway bar is the swaybar for the Z06, and my endlinks were plastic, his were metal. I believe the spring rates were the same.

Dont you mean Gymkata?

Plot Summary for
Gymkata (1985)

Johnathan Cabot is a champion gymnast. In the tiny, yet savage, country of Parmistan, there is a perfect spot for a "star wars" site. For the US to get this site, they must compete in the brutal "Game". The government calls on Cabot, the son of a former operative, to win the game. Cabot must combine his gymnastics skills of the west with fighting secrets of the east and form GYMKATA!

I assume the suspension is better

Funny, but it IS Gymkhana! From what I have found on the net, it is just the Z51 suspension packaged with the manual transmission.
