I havent used valentine before so I can't tell you which one is better, but I will share with you my experience with Passport.

I puchased a Passport 4500 model radar detector 10 years ago. Until this day, the detector works flawlessly despite massive abuse from continuos direct hot middle east sun light to it.

I would never buy anything else other than a Passport if thier quality continuos to be the same.

Until my V1 was ripped out of my beater, it worked great for the four years that I owned it...I plan on buying another one in the next few months.

This is a subject that has been discussed many many times here, hence beating the dead horse above. They are both very good units. Lots of the V1 users, like myself, like the V1 for the arrows which show the direction the threat is coming from. Also, it has a bogey counter which shows the number of threats. Like if there was a speed trap that had several radars set up a mile or so apart. It would let you know by showing a 2 or 3 that there were others up in front of you. The V1 is a little more expensive, you won't go wrong with either unit.

V-1!! The arrows and bogie counter alone are well worth the extra bucks and will save you more than it costs when you hit your first speedtrap!

the x50 also has an advanced mode that shows the amount of "bogies" it is recieving.

X50 8500 here and it's awesome. The V1 is too ugly to put in a Vette, looks like it was developed inthe 70's, though I'm sure they are both equal in performance.

Anybody know about POP radar?

The research I've done says the Escort and Bel units are the only effective defense.

It also shows the V1 does not detect it.

Any info appreciated!

"It also shows the V1 does not detect it."

Hmmm

Not what Valentine's web site says:

While I have neither....yet, because I can keep my speed in line. But if I had to pick it would be the 8500 X50. Arrows are a gimmick in my eyes. Yet some swear by them. Personally I would slow down the minute the thing went off, so it wouldn't matter to me where the hit was from. Plus the 8500 X50 can be had in blue to match the dash lights.

Overall it's probably safe to say they are both good units with a big following. So it depends more on what style you prefer and how much you want to spend.

But check out the Audio/Electronics section for information about them. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

V1 owner here. My favorite part of the detector are the directional arrows which show you where the radar is coming from. That feature has helped out a great deal.

I have two 8500 X50's and they both work fine for me; however, you can't go wrong with either one

Like Shylor mentioned, the arrows don't mean squat to me (I rarely go by the LEDs anyway); the moment I hear the **** go off ESPECIALLY Ka band or Laser, I'm off the throttle and looking around for the LEO(s) then I quickly glance up at the LEDs...

No kidding, who has time to look at arrows and worry about direction? The first thing everyone does is slow down.
