change battery while keeping computer settings
Hi Folks.
I'm about to change the battery of my 2003 Z06
I was wondering if there is a way to have the job done WHILE KEEPING the settings in the computer.
I heard that it could be possible to do it if you plug a battery/generator in the electrical plug regularly used for cell chargers etc.Anybody knows if that is true?
Also, any 123 tips you could spare on changing the battery would be highly appreciated, Thanks, Peace

I've never tried this but I would guess that if you had a spare battery and a set of jumper cables, you could attach the jumper cables to the battery cables just before you remove them from your old battery. It would be a PITA but I bet it would work.

I'm not sure if this will work on a C5, but it works on my 97 pickup: Connect a 9v battery to a plug that fits in your lighter. That is enough voltage to keep the radio memory & clock working, I have done it many times.

While the accessory catalogs sell these 9V "memory savers" they state in the catalogs that they should not be used on C5's. Wonder if there is either too much current draw or if not having a full 12V is the issue?
Could you hook a small float charger or even a small battery charger to the battery cables? That would supply 12V and enough amperage to keep any volatile memory data safe until the car battery is reconnected.

About the only thing you will notice is you loose key fob learn which takes 20 seconds to fix. The computer will relearn idle etc but you will likely not notice that and it is not a bad thing. I remove my battery every winter.

When i changed my stock battery to red top the only thing that changed was the clock, everything else stayed the same. I have also disconnected the ground when working on it and again the clock is the only thing that was effective.

I took one of the adapters that plug into cigarette lighter and used spade wiring connectors on the wires to connect a 9 volt battery. Worked for me without any problems but it is your call.
