Default telescopic steering wheel not working

My telescopic steering wheel will not move when I push the switch forward or backward. Has anyone had the same problem. There's no sound when I try the switch.

I've got the same problem. I diagnosed it as the actuator under the dash needs replacing. The actuator is the "motor" assembly that runs the steering column in and out.

To replace the actuator, you have to remove the plastic panel that is directly above the brake and gas pedals, remove the center counsel and then remove the drivers side knee bolster. I'm going to do it this winter since although I don't think it is a horribly time consuming or tough project, winter sounds like a better time to do it.

By the way, if it turns out that it is your actuator that needs replacing, let me know, since I have two of them, and I only need one. (don't ask why I have two of them). They are about $360.00 from the stealership, and I'll make you HECK of a deal.

Before you replace the switch move the acuator 5 times in the same direction. Out or in does not matter. This resets the computer and may fix your problem. Had the same problem with mine and it works ok know. I understand that sometimes it goes beyond a stop and sticks.

If it travels beyond the stops , how can this be resolved. Mine clicks when I push the switch in, nothing pushing switch out. Sometimes the wheel is in the out position when I enter the car. Pushing the switch in moves the column pull out does nothing. Mine is a 99

Look at this link. In particular, my Post #7.

If that does not fix it we can look at further diagnostics.

Mr. Sam
My wheel has a mind of it's own! The switch clicks when I push forward. NO clicks when I pull it toward me. My memory seat works OK and on 2 occasions the wheel extender out with me doing nothing at all. It will retract with the switch toward the dash but nothing back toward me. Driving me nuts !!

Easy, you just jumper power to make it go in or out. Do you need the connector view? Would just need your year to make sure no changes. I don't think there were any for this though.

Mr. Sam
how would you do that? I took out my seat to put in racing seats and set the wheel out before I took off the seat harness. It has stayed, but I feel it has sunk in a little.

Easy, the harness for the seat which you disconnected feeds the TSW. You just put power on the correct pin/color wire and if the TSW works you can move it wherever you want. The TSW ground is in the dash area so all you need is 12 volts.
