My drive belt came off while driving.
I replaced the drive belt on my 99 2 days ago. They gave me part # 4060802(gatorback).The lenght is 80.25.I was going to work and the belt was thrown off.It got chewed up alittle but I got to work.I did some research and found that belt is for a 2002.The part # for mine is 4060798 and is 79 7/8 long.Would that differance in length make the belt come off.

Also check when you have it on and running, that your harmonic balancer is not sticking out causing the belt to come off. You will see when the engine is running that is slowly starts to slip off.
I know about this because my harmonic balancer was out a little causing the belt to slip out.
Cheers!!

After reading your post, I realized I used the same belt (4060802) last year on my 2000 and should've used the other. I haven't had any problems with it. Should I replace it? Soon?
TIA

I bet it is your tensioner. My car is a year older then yours, and my tensioner got loose. It got so loose I lost my belt while drag racing (at the track) and it darn near overheated my engine when I was done.

I think the belt being a little long did it.

Well thats what happened to me. My tensioner went bad after changing the belt. When I applied pressure to release the original belt, I think that caused the tensioner to get weak.
Unless the belt was significantly longer the automatic tensioner does have a good bit of range on it and should have taken up the slack by a longer belt.
Did you replace the belt with a shorter one?
