Default LS6 intake manifold - 5 HP and 25 ft/lbs.?

I have seen where some have said that an LS6 intake will give you an additional 5 HP based on the fact that 97-00 C5’s made 345 HP and 01-and up C5’s made 350 HP. One thing that is failed to be mentioned is that the torque number went up between those same model years, from 350 ft/lbs. in the 97-00 to 375 ft/lbs. in 01-and-up C5’s. (Automatics only went up to 360 ft/lbs.). My question is this, what is causing the increase in torque? Do you think the LS6 intake manifold could give you an additional 25 ft/lbs. of torque? I know this is kind of a dumb question, just one that had always bothered me. It mainly bothers me because I want to know if there is another modification that I could be doing that will drive up the torque number. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Not unless you are flowing some serious air. 600+ rwhp at least.

The grind of the cam also changed with the newer C5's - this is more then likely the real increase. Our (I have a 97) cam is quite anemic to say the least...it has been speculated (on ls1tech.com) that an install of an LS6 cam in our cars would yeild 30HP increase (no tuning required). Cam grinds and head design are the main keys...I am not certain if our heads are different from the newer C5's though.

Hope this helps!

The Ls6 intake manifold and the newer cast exhaust manifold[30% more flow]got 5 hp crank, 4 rwhp. the difference in the intake is minimal. The runners are identical in length and diameter, although the LS6 are belled about 1/16 " on entry, and plenum volume is up a bit over 2 cubic inches.Very expensive horsepower! If you pay someone to do it we are talking $200+ per horse...

Unless you are doing all the HP mods and trying to get every HP out of the setup.. I wouldnt waste the money on an LS6 intake.

I added a set of Stainless Works headers and an LS6 manifold and went from 316rwhp tp 347rwhp. I don't think the headers were responsible for all the extra power.

Two questions, did you pay a tuner to do the install, and did the same tuner dyno the car. A good tune is worth 8-10 hp, headers 17-20, Ls6 intake 4,there is your 31 hp... even dynos done on the same day are subject to many variables.
