6.0 heads on a 5.7 ?
I've noticed ALOT of 6.0 heads for sale at half the cost of LS6 heads. Just wondering if it may be an option. Firstly can these be bolted on wihout fitment issues with LS1/LS6 intake. What would be the compression implications, and would shaving them be an option? Secondly what would be the performance of these on mild cam LS1?

I'm using 317 castings on m 98 with a stock head gasket and my static cr is 9.62:1. The ports are very similar to ls6 heads but with a bigger combustion chamber. In other words, a low cost blower head.

So how do you think these would do on a N/A car with a 221/221 575/575 112 cam ? I know alot of head builders say its smothness of flow, not chamber size that makes the big number, but would these be viable for some HP with a good tune ? Also, what about shaving them down to raise the CR ?

Sure, you could shave them down to raise cr, but then you have to contend with intake fitment issues. The intake and exhaust runners are the same size from a ls6 head to an lq4/lq9 head. Going n/a I'd think you would want to keep the static cr high to keep your bottom numbers on the good side. You could shave them a little and go with a thinner head gasket to get the combustion chamber smaller. Valvetrain geometery also becomes a factor when making the aforementioned mods as well. I dont know how much you can shave before intake fitment becomes an issue, but the 6.0 heads will flow better than the ls1 head.
With the cam you mentioned, you'dprobably give up somebottom end tq. with 6.0 heads due to the decreased cr. but make it up by say 3600 rpms then pull really good to redline.

Which 6.0 head are you considering.
The 317 head is the 6.0 truck head 72cc 9.X to 1 compression.
The other 6.0 head is the 243 head used on the LS2 and LS6,
64cc 10.5 to 1 compression.
243 heads price is significantly lower now that the LS2 is in mass production.
Used price needs to come down as well.
Many vendors selling new cnc ported 243 heads for 850 ish a pair w/
stock valves and springs.
Can beat the bang for the buck value of this option.

I wish I could just drop the 2k+ on AFR heads, but damn....the wife might as well castrate me, because I"m still in the doghouse from the last round of mods
