Default Keyless entry keeps forgetting

Hi all. I just purchased my first 'Vette, a 2000 ragtop. My two local gurus have helped initiate me into this new venture. (They have a ZR1 and a '65 respectively.) Everything seems to check out OK except for the keyless entry fob. When I picked up the car the fob didn't work, so I changed its battery. Then I re-sync'd the fob as per the manual. The problem is that after a couple of successful lock-unlock cycles, the fob fails to communicate and needs to be re-sync'd. The vehicle itself has a brand new battery. Anybody ever experience this wireless amnesia?

I have the same problem. I bought the FOB a while back, and it programmed up just fine. But every week or so it will just stop working. I just reprogram it and it works fine for another week. This is a major annoyance

Keyless remotes are one of the most talked about items on this forum.
Bottomline- Buy a new one and you have a 99.9% chance your problem will be solved.

Since I need to have GM make me a second key, I guess I'll buy another fob while I'm there.
Thanks!

Default Fob

Try searching eBay for fobs as the dealer price is around $100 to $140 each. I bought two barely used ones (w/ passive feature for '99) for $95 the pair. They both work fine and now I have spares in case mine start acting up!

Have fun finding them on ebay for a 2000, only a 2000 will work on a 2000. Not any other year.

Default 2000 keyless entry fobs

Actually I just went to eBay and searched for "2000 Corvette keyless entry fob" and there are plenty for sale there. "Buy it now" prices are in the $50 to $60 range but some can be had for less by waiting until just before the auction ends and putting in the highest amount you'll pay. Works like a charm!

2000 works on 1999.

I found a broken battery contact in mine. Caused the "forget" symptom.

Might try this place for keys. I haven't tried them, just have them bookmarked.
VATS Keys

VATS key codes
The 15 resistor codes are:
Key #, Value-Ohms, (VATS Code)
1-392 (-) 9-3010 (GA)
2-523 (CN) 10-3740 (NP)
3-681 (FW) 11-4750 (FY)
4-887 (GP) 12-6040 (C5)
5-1130 (KA) 13-7500 (XY)
6-1470 (N5) 14-9530 (KB)
7-1870 (UN) 15-11800 (UW)
8-2370 (XB)

Any key place should be able to cut the blank off of your existing key.

There are a number of things that can cause a loss of FOB sync. The very first thing that you should do is check your DTC codes! see what they are telling you. If you have a lot of U series codes, your main 12 VDC battery could be weak or low on charge. When you start the engine the high current draw causes the battery voltage to go low and the BCM looses the FOB sync and a few other things.

If your new fob does the same thing, check the codes.

This is the absolute best C5 Code web site!!!
