Default headers - stock or aftermarket plug wires

Just installed a set of Dynatech Supermaxx LT headers - For those who have headers, are you using the factory spark plug wires, or have you switched to an aftermarket wire?

If using the factory plug wires, have you encountered any problems due to heat?

I'm running magnacore because they're first class wires and they make an offset Corvette set that's specifically designed for header mods.

The factory wires have metal head shields stock... if your primaries are close to the wires then get some Koolsox wire socks. Don't waste your money on a/m wires unless your stock ones are broken. There is no HP gained from new wires.

The day I see someone post gains from non-stock plug wires will be the day I switch. Hasn't happened yet.

Run the stock wires with the stock heat shields. The wires are short and the heat shields protect the wires.

If you go aftermarket, make sure you use some type of heat shield, or you will burn through the wires and get misfires.

I use MSD on all my 60's muscle cars. But, use Magnecore on my C5's. And, I have been trouble free with the Magnecore wires (no heat/header issues) for three and a half years.

I'm using Magnacore KV85's with the 45 degree plug boots w/o heat shields. No heat issues from my Kooks headers.

I was running the Taylor 10.5MM wires, but have had a number of them pull appart upon removal. I now use the MSD wire because it seems to be made much stronger than the Taylors.

After four taylors failed at the plug end, I can't recommend them to anyone... Crappy design.

Mike
