Default Mixing Atf And Synthetic Atf?????????

If someone adds a quart of Synthetic ATF to the regular ATF in an automatic trans, do you think it will damage anything??? It's not me,,,I have a Z06 Just trying to help someone out!

Please let me know if you have seen any body do this before and did it damage the tranny??

Thanks

I just did a tranny service (droped the pan/replaced filter) I used
Mobil 1 to replace (5 quarts) of the regular ATF that was lost.
The Mobil 1 bottle says its compatible with regular ATF. And all seems fine as before mixing

...Absolutely!!!! To be honest, I've never found one that wasn't compatible....Read the manufactures label to be sure.

Actually I would recommend (If it were my car) flushing that out and putting in one or the other type. At least In the Asian Warner transmissions in the Volvo's I work on Synthetic is a big no-no in the 93-98's. Where in 99 and up use synthetic. And more confusingly, in the GM (4T65) transmissions that are in our S80 and XC90 use strictly only regular ATF, and synthetic ATF will ruin them. So, before telling your friend to relax bill, I would just make absolutely sure that synthetic in the A4's is ok to do.... Tranny's are expensive.

I'll probably get S L A P P E D ,,,,,,, but it's not in a vette. Its in a Nova and it's a TH 350. His dad did a complete flush and fill with a new converter and all new synthetic ATF. It was about 3/4 of a qt low and his son grabbed the regular aft and topped it off.

I'm going to have to agree with the majority and say RUN IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!

Thanks guys for chiming in and helping him out!

Unless FLP has changed the way they build their transmissions, synthetic ATF is not compatable with their transmissions You need to use DextronIII.

I talked to Chuck today as recommened by you and my geek friend Mr.Lucky.

He does recommend against synthetic based on his experience tearing down used trannies that have synthetic in them not because of any inherant design differences in his tranny. He feels that there will be too much slipage for the clutches. He is recommending Dextron VI.

I emailed him this link....he may elaborate

He'll be fine as long as it's the right kind of ATF. IOW, Dexron/Mercon III plain or synthetic would be fine; Dexron and ATF-3 would make me nervous.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

My TH350 (in my '99) wasn't shifting as firm as I thought it should so I switched it to AMSOIL Super Shift and it fills like a whole new trans. The Super shift is decined to stop slippage so it shouldn't cause any of the trouble that some of the trans. shops speak of.
