Did a search and didn't find anything specific on the forum for the last six months other than another guy with a similar complaint.

Under hard acceleration my seat back will make a kind of "pop" sound and collapse rearward an inch or two. This is not the "rocking seat" problem that others have mentioned. It is only the seat back. It happens so much that, when I am playing hard, I have taken to grabbing the steering wheel and pulling forward to keep pressure off the back. Kind of takes the fun out of the event. Not to mention probably not good for the steering wheel mechanism.

I'm a pretty big guy and probably put more pressure on the back than someone smaller, but it doesn't seem right to me that a car designed to push you back in the seat would do this. H*ll, my 8.1 liter Suburban scoots pretty well and the seat back stays rock steady.

I think this could be dangerous. One guy on a race went off the course because of the same problem. I was thinking of wedgeing some wood or something to brace the seatback, but I think that would look pretty bad. Anyone with this problem find a fix?

Mine does the same thing. Took it in to the dealer twice and both times they said it was an adjustment problem. Neither time did they fix it. Sorry I can't help.

I had the exact same problem. When I took it to the dealer for service, I was told that it was "normal" (I'm thinking what crap). Later, my seat covers had to be replaced under warranty.....no matter how hard I have leaned back, there is no longer any movement or popping noise. So, the popping is a problem and can be fixed...it's not "normal".

Same thing happens to me when pulling out of the Toe of the Boot at Watkins Glen. Going up hill and accelerating with G forces throwing my body to the left will release the catch on the left side seat back. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong with the adjusters.

the seat back is made of fiberglass, there is a large area that rests on this dowel; the oval w/ pin is the forward release, this will not cause the seat to 'fall' back, unrelated item

i would say the reclining springs are 'popping' out of position

Do I understand that you are saying that I should replace the springs?

I had the same problem and the dealer replaced something in the seat. It was ok for a while and then it started again.

not the springs, but the recliner(the spring is part of it), pn's listed, be sure to ck the cables for free movement also

Got it. I'm going to see my "friendly" Chevy dealer in the next couple of days and see if I can get GMPP to come to my rescue. Armed with the pictures and the part numbers, I bet I'll have success. If I have to buy the parts, at least they're not expensive.
