Default Cam question

I have a 98 A4 with Lg long tubes, no cats, computer dyno tune, and a vararam. Would the Lg motorsports G5X3 cam make much more power without different heads on my car? Or any suggestions on a cam that would. Thanks Ken

With a tune I wouldn't be surprised by a gain of 40rwhp. I would expect at least 30 rwhp. But just remember, with stock heads you'll need new springs too.

Don't even think about using the stock springs with any after market cam.

Just enough for a stock cam for which they were designed for. Any cam change I would change the springs, no question.

I also still have the stock 2.73s out back, I would def change the gears and may as well do a stall while im in there if i did a cam. On a auto car would you go with 3.73s or 3.90s? I live 4 miles from work so gas mileage doesnt matter. Im thinking of goin with a 3200-3600 converter too. Gears?

Neither. If this is your daily driver I would go 3.42's which can be found relatively cheaply from a stick car that converted to a higher ratio. Remember you have the 2.73 gears now which means the 3-series gears won't go right in. You need a 3-series carrier and not a 2-series carrier. I believe DTE is currently swapping 3-series gears into 2-series housings but you're gonna buy the whole differential from them anyway unless you're local to them so why risk it? Go with a set of 3.42's and a stall converter and your car will feel 100 times more powerful and satisfy you 100 times more than just a cam swap.

The G5X3 is .600/.610 lift. You need the Comp 921 spring kit for sure as well as new pushrods. That's a lot of cam for your automatic tranny and gears - some would say maybe too much.
