Default LS-1 Camaro vs LS-1 Corvette, are they the same??

Just wondering what the difference between a Z-28 with LS-1 and a Corvette Ls-1 is.. I know there is a 50 horsepower advantage for the Corvette LS-1. Where does it come from?. I know the vette has a less restrictive exhaust, but what else? The SS and WS-6 Trans-Am make 320 horsepower due to the ram-air. Are all the engines (LS-1) the same?? Maybe different camshafts? Maybe a GM-thing, under rating HP numbers for the F-bodies??

The F body LSx motors are tuned differntly and have a electronic govener. When the F body motor is tuned and the electronic gov is removed, power is about the same.

Then the differnce is weight and center of gravity of the two cars.

The engines are the same. The throttle bodies are different only by the Vette's being drive by wire.

The F-bodies put down more power at the wheels due to the solid axel.

But make the cars the same weight and they will do the same 1/4 mile.

Why do the F body cars sound so much better than our Vettes? I have LG headers, high flow cats and GHL Magnums, so my car sounds good, but I was behind an SS Camaro the other day and it sounded deeper and stronger than my car by quite a bit.

My Camaro definitely sounds better than my Vette. If I had kept an H-pipe instead of going to an X it would be closer I think.

Engine mods can make a huge difference to sound as well.

But yeah, like it's been said, they're the same engine. There's minor differences between the platforms (tb, exhaust manifold) but they don't affect power. The cams are slightly different but not enough to make any sort of power difference.

Most Camaros/Firebirds will put down more power than the same year vette, due to less parasitic losses from the solid rear. Generally will run equal track times, due to the vette's lower weight though.

The 'rating' difference was just typical GM underrating their 'lower end' model to make vette owners feel better. Literally.

Doesn't bother me, I like both of my LS1s just fine

I've ran a lot of C5s in my Formula, and lost to very few of them (actually I don't remember loosing to any...but I'm sure there was some). It will usually come down to the driver.

I personally think my car sounds much better than most of the F-bodies I've heard. I have some friends with some bad *** built F-bodies and I still prefer the sound of mine!

I think it depends on the person to the likes of which sounds better!

None of the '93-'02 Z28's or TA's came with iron headsnot the LT1 or the LS1. And the LS1's have the same intake as the Vette's until the LS6 intakes and then some of the '01 up Z's came with those as well. And some of the '01-'02 Z's even came with the LS6 block.

Even though the Vettes are lighter most of the time the F-bodies seem to be faster.

Here's about the only differance between the engins of the two. ( cam specs)
'99 Y body .479/.472 207/199 177
'99 F body .500/.500 209/198 119.5

'00 Y body .500/.500 209/198 115.5
'00 F body same as in '99

'01 Y Body .479/.467 207/196 116
'01 Y LS6 .525/.525 211/204 116
'01 F body .479/.467 207/196 116

'02 Y body same as in '01
'02 Y LS6 .551/.555 218/204 117.5
'02 F body same as in '01
