Default AMSOil doesn't work with oil life sensor?

At the beginning of spring I changed my oil with AMSOil that I got at dealer pricing from a co-worker. However, after resetting the oil life sensor, the oil life percentage didn't go up. It remained at the same level and has been dropping fast, now down to only about 15%.

Has anyone else seen any issues with AMSOil and the oil life sensor?

i ran am. oil never had any issues like that. the"sensor" doesnt really take samples of oil. more based on time and miles.

You didn't reset the monitor correctly. You should be stopped with the key in the run position (The car could be running or not) and hold down the reset button until 100% or 99% is displayed while in the oil life mode. The system does not detect oil type or condition but rather uses an algorithm based on engine revolutions.

Can also reset it by turning the key on and pressing the gas to the floor three times rapidly.

Use the RESET button when your oli life % is displayed on the DIC.

The car "computes" the life of the oil based on your driving habits, mileage, etc.

Putting a Spectrophotometer on your car to "see" the oil and test it would more than double the price of your C5.

The monitor doesn't care if you put vegetable oil in it, that is not the way it works.

I'm pretty sure that is how I did it. But when I reset the sensor it doesn't read 100%, it reads "---%" for a while and then settles on a percentage reading, but in my case it didn't go back to 100, it stayed where it was.

did you do this with the key on engine OFF? or was the engine running? I've had that happen where the oil life did not re-set for whatever reason while the car was running...

The car needs to be NOT RUNNING with the key in the ON postion. Then push the gas pedal 3 times to the floor.

Hey Bobby, you're not old enough to call someone a son... Heck you're just a college student. BTW, what do you do these days. I met you last year in Hayward, across from Kregen...

Hmmmm, According to the location listed beneath your avatar your in Hayward, CA. Unless I was having one of those "out of body" experiences, you have me confused with someone else, which may not be a bad thing for me at all!!

I'll be 54 in October and live a bit east of you, about 3000 miles, give or take a few miles. I live in the Communist Republic of Massachusetts..see avatar...

But thanks for the age complement anyway!!!

Or hit reset on the DIC. If you do it while running, it will go blank "---%" and then back to the old percentage. I always do it when I get in to crank it for the first time after the change. Key to "on," reset DIC, start car, check for leaks.

Ignition key in the "on" position, but engine NOT running, press the reset and it should go to 99 or 100.
