Default 1998 corvette shock absorbers

Does anyone know the best route to take when replacing the original
shock absorbers? I am considering the Bilstein set for about 300.00 instead of the 1,600 factory replacement. Thanks.

Excellent choice. I put a set on my '97 Bilstein Sport with ZO6 sway bars and metal end links...car handles better than new
SC5
PS
Order Poly bushings for the sway bars if you replace it with the ZO6 SB.
Also using the stock shock bushings will eliminate squeaking from the bushings supplied with the Bilstien shocks. (I had that problem even after applying silicone lubrication and tightening to the max)

I have a '98 with the F45 adjustable ride supsension. I just finished installing poly bushings and I went with the C6-Z06 shocks (they're only $202 shipped at Fred Beans [set of 4] - Bilsteins, as you mentioned, are around $300/set at most places).

WOW!!! . . . What a difference! Better ride! - More stable at high speed! - Corners better! It's like a whole different car!!!

If you have the adjustable ride suspension, and go to non-F45 shocks, you need to either have the F45 system deleted from your BCM by someone with a Tech II, or you can buy or make simulators. LAPD sells the simulators (about $200/set) that just plug into where the F45 shocks plug into the wiring harness. I made my own, using 10 ohm - 10 watt resistors. I just cut the wires and plugs off the old shocks and soldered the resistors in and sealed up with tape and then sprayed with Plasti-Dip to make them water tight. Got the resistors at Radio Shack for about $4.

I'm assuming you have the F45 suspension, since you mentioned that the GM shocks are $1,600. IMHO - Dumping that F45 system is one of the best mods you can do, and it's good bang for the buck!

If you don't have adjustable shocks, no problem. If you do I was able to take the shock apart and get to a piece about the size of a quarter. I plugged them back in with the original connectors and used Bilsteins for a fraction of the factory replacement. No aftermarket replacements yet that I know of, but there probably will be.

Can you post pics of your home made simulators?
