how do you install a turn signal switch?
I need to break into the plastic around the steering column but I do not want to break anything. Has anyone had to install a turn signal switch or wiper switchand can give me good instructions on getting the plastic off the steering column? Thank you for your help.

I will see what my chassis service manual says, and report back...
Looks like the hardest part is removing the steering column covers. The turn signal is part of a multifunction switch that comes off as a unit once the column is exposed.
According to the manual,
1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Remove the steering wheel (you might be able to get by without doing this step)
3. Remove the tilt lever from the column. The is a clip with a locking pin that you have to lift with a small screwdriver, then it pulls right off.
4. Remove the lower bolster panel. This is to allow more room to tilt the lower cover down, and I am pretty sure you can get by without removing this panel too.
5. Remove the 2 torx screws from the lower cover.
6. Tilt the lower cover down and unhook the back edge from the upper cover.
7. Remove the 2 torx screws from the upper cover.
8. Remove the upper cover.
9. Remove the turn signal multifunction switch assembly. Looks like just a couple of screws attach it to the column. When you install the new switch, make sure the electrical contact rests on the turn signal cancel cam assembly.
I love this part...Reverse the procedure to reassemble!

Ya, I tried it without removing the steering wheel. Broke some of the clips on the trim and ended up just gluing it back together There is not a whole lot of wiggle room with the steering wheel in place, and the plastic is not very forgiving. But, a lot of my trim plastic is brittle, maybe more than average...
I don't have any diagrams, but thats what you would need to see what needs to be done. Maybe someone else could post some, I thought there was some in the shop manual. I would not attempt to tell you from memory I tried to forget the experience as soon as I was done
If you don't have to, skip it. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful
