Default APS C5 twin turbo System - 640 whp at 9 PSI - bone stock engine

Hi Guys, Just a quick update on the C5 twin intercooled twin turbo system. Our head tech just dyno tested the twin intercooled twin turbo system with high flow rear mufflers (APS developed rear mufflers which will be released in early 07) and after a little tweaking on the engine tune the stock ZO6 engine produced 640 rwhp and 622 rwtq at just 9 PSI boost on 93 octane fuel. Now I'm not entirely sure how durable the stock ZO6 engine will be at this power/boost level though it certainly shows that there's plenty of power potential in the little 346 cube LS1/LS6 engine, enjoy and let me know if you have any questions, happy to help out.

Stock Power and Torque vs APS C5 twin turbo Power and Torque.

APS C5 twin turbo power vs boost pressure.

I've never been that low on boost though here's a power graph at 7.6 PSI.

Stock engine you mentioned? I give it about 1K miles before the rings are shot and the engine goes south.

Awesome numbers guys! I wonder how long they'll last though...

How much power will a forged LS6 handle?

Seems to me that there's loads of C5's with stock engines running FI with around with 550 to 600 rwhp. If anything, I'd guess a piston might fail due to the high cylinder pressures or detonation from low octane fuel and or poor tuning - no doubt a set of 9:1 forged pistons would be a wise investment for the long term.

Yes there are quite a few around running that much power and I know 15 guys that have blown their engines up also recently for whatever reasons, and my friend just did his engine in a few weeks back running 520 rwhp with a good tune. The rings went and went fast. If you are on it all the time its gonna blow, but if you just wanna listen to the whistle and run low boost and never get on it much it might last a long time. The way I drive id blow it up in a week.

I guess it's easy to hurt an engine that may not be in good shape before the FI install, (that should always be verifed before the install) I always recommend a cyl leak down test at minimum before any FI install.

I've never had a ring problem ever on an LS1 engine that's in good shape (my own LS1 twin turbo engine has covered 52,000 miles in 2.5 years), in my experience you will hurt/break a piston (most likely # 7) well before rings are ever a problem. Most engines get hurt from poor tuning and low octane fuel in my experience, too much ignition timing and lean air fuel ratios can cause loads of carnage.

What makes you think it was a good tune if he blew it up with a measly 500 hp?

FWIW, I ran between 500 and 620 (Mustang dyno) rwhp for two years on a stock bottom end without issue, and I don't think anyone would conclude that I drive conservatively.
