Default Harmonic Balancer

I am in the middle of replacing the harmonic balancer on my 2000 C5.
The balancer I bought has a keyway machined in it. I am putting it on a stock engine with no provision for a key and am wondering if the keyway will be a path to leak oil and should it be sealed. Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Is the keyway on your new balancer on the inner diameter? If so, that's where it would otherwise mate up with the matching keyway on the crank itself. This would not be an oil leak path.

My ATI has a keyway as well and doesn't leak a drop. I do have it pinned, but the pin by no means will seal it. I think the pressure of the bolt is enough to contain any oil weepage.

Thanks for the advice. As tight as the bolt is, I didn't think it would leak, but wanted to be sure.

You might want to consider the ATI pin kit, which is made for a keyed hub. Sure takes the worry out of the balancer coming off.
