Default For thos who want to rebuild their own diff and have a 2 series carrier.

It seems motive makes a gear for the 2 series carrier!!! The 3.90 gear for a 2 series carrier part # is V885390LX, the 4.10 gear part # for the 2 series carrier is V885410LX. The master rebuild kit is R10RVLMKT with timken bearings or R10RVLMK without. Seems you can rebuild your entire diff for under 500 bucks!! I have the entire GM getrag rebuild kit for the c5 diff as well. With these tools the differential is as easy to build as any conventional solid axle rear!! I may borrow out the getrag tool kit w/ a refundable deposit for those who want to save themselves a bunch of money and build their own... Oh y eah, the bearing only kit is R10RVL and R10RVLT for Timken bearings.

Oh yeah, the post above may make it sound like those bearings only fit the 2 series which is not the case (no pun intended). You will still need to get seals for the side covers and axle seals from GM. I've never had problems reusing my axle seals but i'm a cheap ***

Summit prices/part # for these things: This kit below should be about all you need (except axle seals if desired and perhaps side cover gaskets) This includes: rear cover gasket, rear cover bolts, pinion nut, crush sleeve, carrier shims, carrier bearings, tail and head bearings (for pinion I believe) and sealant. **NOTE** Although the pic shows it including axle seals, it does not

Master bearing kit (Fits all C5 and C6s): This master bearing kit below should be about all you need (except axle seals if desired) This includes: rear cover gasket, side cover gaskets, pinion nut, crush sleeve, carrier shims, carrier bearings, pinion bearings and sealant.

Master w/ timken: MGR-R10RVLMKT $186.89 (This can be had for about 11 bucks cheaper if you look around)

Motive Gearsets (can be had NEW for $300 ebay)
3.90 for 2 series: MGR-V885390LX $369.95
4.10 for 2 series: Summit doesn't list this part but motive sells it
3.90 for 3 series: MGR-V885390L $348.95
4.10 for 3 Series: MGR-V885410L $349.95

Axle seals (2 required): 88996703 $11.50 (GM Parts Direct)

And of course add any hardened input shafts you may desire.

There is alot more to setting up the corvette rear than buying the hard parts. You must have the Kent Moore/SPX tool kit which runs over 1k to assemble the rear but if you don't have the (GM/Getrag)right shims there is NO WAY to get the pinion depth, gear pattern and backlash correct. You can buy the shims from GM for about 7 bucks each. Good Luck.

I had heard that someone was making thick gears for the 2 series case, I guess this comfirms it (no need for a spacer) .

Which series case is the strongest? Are you better off building up a 2 series or 3 series?

you can use a 3 or 4 series gear in a 2 series carrier the only difference it seems is the location of the reluctor wheel for the speed sensor. I ended up having my speed sensor hole machined closer to the center of the diff. so basically iif one would have tqack welded another reluctor wheel directly next to the original one you wouldn't even have to mod the case or get the 'thick' gear..
