Default How do you determine a true Z06 rear diff

I have my little bro picking up what claims to be a complete Z06 rear diff. I found that the part numbers differ from the C5 and C5Z rears. Are these numbers stamped right on the carrier? I believe a Getrag tag should be on the unit. Correct? Here are the part numbers I found on the web. He is calling when he picks it up. Thanks

Yes, the Z06 part number should match the number stamped into the rear diff tag.

I believe the tag on the diff will says 3.42 for C5's and 3.42 SP for Z06's. SP=shot peened.

There is no such thing as a "Z06" rear differntial ..... ALL C5 Corvettes with either the MN6 or M12 (Z06) transmission were built with the 3.42 rear gear set.

Wrong my friend. While they both have 3.42 gearing, the Z has shot peened gears.

Not sure about an RPO#, but on the getrag tag thats on the rear of the diff, the Z06 rears do say 3.42 SP, for the shot peened gears. I'm not sure how to tell otherwise.

Look at the Getrag website ....

http://www.getrag.de/323

The Getrag Model 625 Differential is the SAME in all of the C5 Corvettes with the 3.42 rear end ... period ...done ... end of story.

Try this link ...

but here is the one for the Z06: http://www.getrag.de/324 Model 626.

and here is what it says on the Lingenfelter site: These are complete new assemblies ready to bolt in. 3.42:1 and 3.73:1 ring and pinions are shot peened for added strength.

now I am really confused.

TBYRNE lists a Z06 differential and charges $100 more for it.

Got this strait from Getrags website. Search for corvette. It returns two seperate part numbers, part 625 for corvette and part 626 for corvette z06.

C5 = http://www.getrag.de/323
C5Z = http://www.getrag.de/324

Endo story!
