Default C5 Z06 owners...Choking air bridge and maf......

Hey guys. When I put the original Darton sleeved 427 motor in my C5, it was back in 2005. The LS7 wasn't out yet, which explains why I had to go with the Darton motor. No complaints with it, but here's the issue(s). There wasnt nearly the aftermarket parts available then, either, as there is now, 17 years later. When I went with my LS7, I didn't go bigger on the LS6 MAF (only game in town in early 2005). I also have the original LS1 airbridge still in place. Just curious, does the LS6 airbridge go INSIDE the LS6 MAF, because mine does. Seems like it would be a huge restriction when inside the MAF, instead of slipping over the outside My 17 year old Blackwing is still there. I'm looking at a Callaway Honker setup. I'm looking at the pics, and it appears the Honker uses no airbridge, just larger diameter hoses, and moves the MAF up near the throttle body. I'm wondering if this change would mean a new tune is required? Comments about my existing airbridge fit inside the MAF, and experience with the Honker would be greatly appreciated. Thank you......

Why not toss the MAF and go with closed loop speed density?

I prefer the MAF. I also think the differences in altitude I experience twice each year (700ft-7,000ft) are better handled with the MAF system.......

And you would be correct, I think. With an older generation GM PCM running speed density I saw massive swings in my fuel trims going from around sea level to where I live at 6500#. I can check and see how my bridge and MAF marry up at home. I do have a larger aftermarket bridge, but IIRC it went on the same.

I don't see mention of your intake or tb setup.

If you're going to be changing mafs, have you considered the blade style like the LS3 and LS7 have? Then set it in a coupler same diameter as a gold or silver blade tb and adapt out to whichever cai you choose.

I have the stock LS7 Intake, and stock LS7 TB. When I stated earlier that my airbridge went inside my MAF sensor, it was a figure of speech. It is coupled to the LS6 MAF with a rubber coupler. But I noticed, when I tried to see if the nose of the airbridge fit inside the MAF, I was surprised, actually shocked, to find it went fit easily inside the MAF, and had at least 3/16" clearance!!! This effectively reduces the size of the inlet to about 78mm. My car is a 2000 model, and IIRC, GM went with the 85mm LS6 MAF on all C5s from 2001-2004. I'm wondering if the '01-up airbridges have a larger nose/inlet, to better accommodate the larger MAF? I know the aftermarket air filters systems usually offer two versions, one for the '97-'00 models, and one for the '01-'04 cars. Any thoughts/experiences on this? If I go with, let's say a Vararam, what system would I get? I have a sort of Hybrid here. A 2000 model, with a 2001-2004 MAF, and a 90mm TB. I guess a call to Vararam is in order.... .

I'm running the K&N FPIK for a C6Z on my C5. Took some massaging to get it in but its doable. I also made a box to turn it into a bottom breather (similar to the old Vortex).

Of course, the C6Z K&N setup is for card style MAF.

I have owned a 99, 00 and 03 but cannot comment since the 03 came with a blower.

Calling them seems wise. They've seen it all and may have a solution.

I have the Halltech Killer Bee II conversion intake and it is bigger than the stock setup by alot, and uses the card style MAF. I dont think its doing anything on my stock engine, but would probably help that LS7 breathe a lot better.

With LS2 swap, i am running calloway cai, LS7 MAF, LS2 TB. Tuning was required when i switched from LS6 maf.

Back when I got my used Hurricane intake, it was off of a 97-00 car and the filter it came with wouldn't fit my later MAF so I had to pony up for a new one making it less of a screaming deal. I guess I would have bought the 01-04 air bridge then, if one end is larger then it stands to reason so is the other.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate any suggestions. I've kinda changed my mind about the intake system, and I'm now leaning towards a Vara Ram.....

I just checked and my air bridge clamps right over top of the later style MAF, no coupler between the 2.
