Serpentine & A/C tensioner & idler question..
I originally posted this under a post by Gene Wolf, sorry for any confusion.
My 98 is making some noise after I replaced the belts a couple of weeks ago. One tensioner pully had drag & the other didn't. Today my wife called me at work & said it's making noise again. I need to clarify some info from Gene's original post.
- Can I buy just the pulleys or do I have to buy the whole tensioner assembly when doing the tensioners?
- Are the idler & tensioner pullys the same & are only the pullys available?
- Are the parts from Auto Zone or Advance the same as OEM? If so does anyone have a part #?
Thanks,
Klammer

I believe you can purchase them (pulley) separate from an after market source.
I took my tensioner off and removed the pulley, I then removed the seal on the bearing with a pick, the bearing was still o.k. so I packed it with grease popped the seal back on and the squeal was gone. If you say the bearing has drag it may be toast so phone up a parts store and price them out. Hope this helps.

I replaced the AC tensioner and AC idler pully with GM parts last week and all is well.
Tensioner $59.82
Idler Pulley $31.88
On my 02 the idler pulley was the same as the tensioner pulley.
