Loctite says 12345382 is the blue 242 sealant.....hmmmm. I've been bit in the **** with red before. I'll have to think about this one. Red would certainly be safer with regards to back-out strength though.

There is now a Loctite Blue jell in discount stores. It is thicker and a better sealer than the thinner legacy blue and red. I have used that on many flywheel bolts with 100% success. You could also spring for new GMs which have a sealer on the threads.

If they were blind holes this would not be an issue.

Well,I wasn't necessarily commenting on the "silly" part, but more that I don't think previous generation sbc's subscribe to this particular design/issue.My memory may be failing, but it seems to me the crankshaft/flywheel flange is right out in the open on earlier designs, with no oil cavity on the opposing side

Just glad I checked in here for this info..

Wish I would have. Got one of your tranny's showing up tomorrow. Can't wait to get it in.

FWIW, new GM bolts I ordered did not come with sealant (and they're from GM intended for the LS flywheel). ARP bolts come with thread lube.

I wound up using ARP sealant on the GM bolts and stripping one (or the bolt, I'm not sure yet) likely because 75 foot lbs with ARP sealant is more than it would be with 30 weight oil.

Not my fault if people install LS motors once every 8 years! I take the threads where I can find 'em.

I wish there was some accumulation of LS swap knowledge on forums somewhere. The Camaro forums are mostly 4th gen now, and I doubt there are a lot of LS Corvette swaps for some reason.

Seems like there are a million LS 69 Camaros but everyone invents the wheel for themselves! And there are a few complicated wheels to invent along the way.... like your clutch will get soaked in oil if you don't use sealant on the converter bolts.
