How to turn off the Tire Pressure Sensor Monitoring?
I changed wheels and tires, but did not install the TPS's. The computer still read 27 pounds in each tire for the last 2 months... BUT now it shows that one of the tires only has 5 pounds, so it gives me all types of warnings:
SERVICE TIRE MONITORING SYSTEM
FLAT TIRE
DO NOT EXCEED 55 MPH
Etc.
How do I turn off the TPS Monitoring? I've looked in the book and did a search on the forum, but I must have missed it. I found how to recalibrate them with a magnet and how to replace the batteries.
I don't want to install the TPS's from the old rims and put them in the new rims... because they are 7 years old and may fail shortly thereafter, I'd prefer to rebuilt them first.
Thanks to anyone willing to help.

I believe a tuner can do that but only on 2001 and up.........hopefully someone with real life experience will chime in..........

Why not reinstall the sensors. It is useful information to know you have low tire pressure.

How could it read anything if the sensors aren't there?
I guess they changed from 1999. Mine just said Service Tire Monitoring System when I started it when I didn't have any sensors. I hit Reset and it would clear.
If I scrolled through the readings all tires showed "0".

can anyone shed some more light on this? ...mine are going off for all four tires. i inflated them to 50psi then down to like 47 and the TPS's are still flashing. Is it that the sensors are only calibrated for the stock size tires? i have a '99 FRC and was wondering if the stealership can tune it out or any tuner for this car.

The sensors have batteries in them, and yours have probably run down. They need to be replaced. The sensors have no idea what tires you have on the car, the only thing they do is report the air pressure in the tire. They would work on a truck tire, or on a ballon.

Only way i know it can be turned off on 2001 and newer is using tech II,
Correct me if wrong, no tuner software/hardware can do it. Has to be Tech II.

So, anyone have the link or contact information to the person who replaces the batteries on these things?
Thanks

Twilight Zone Reading For Tps
Unfortunately Rod Serling is no longer with us but what you are describing surely belongs in the TWILIGHT ZONE. Last time I saw Rod alive was in '74 in Ithaca NY. Are you carring the TPS sensors around in the trunk?

TPMS cannot be turned off on your car. As others have said, only on 2001 and newer cars can the feature be disabled.
The sensors have batteries in them, and yours have probably run down. They need to be replaced. The sensors have no idea what tires you have on the car, the only thing they do is report the air pressure in the tire. They would work on a truck tire, or on a ballon.
